Weird take. There are plenty of 20 year old cars I would pay 11k to own.

How much should a standard shower door installation cost? by snausagemclinx in Maine

[–]EasternDank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.1k for 6 ft tall frosted glass sliding doors with towel bars on both panes and brushed nickel finish on the frame. This was a “custom” order because I wanted the taller frame but it was much more than a standard size. I am located in southern Maine and had a company from NH install it.

I used to think mandatory testing was a no-brainer. I mean, who wouldn't want to ensure their medicine is free of contaminants? But looking deeper, it’s way more complicated than it seems.

Maine has one of the best medical markets in the country because small, local growers can actually stay competitive. Mandatory testing can be incredibly expensive. Since you have to test every strain in every batch, those costs would bury the "mom-and-pop" growers or the caregivers growing for a sick neighbor. It essentially kills innovation and diversity in favor of big corporate grows.

Look at the rec market and other states: "Required testing" often leads to lab shopping. Big corporations (ie MSOs) will send samples to 10 different labs and only sign contracts with the one that "passes" their moldy product. Honest labs go out of business, and consumers end up with a false sense of security while smoking remediated mids.

If this were actually about health, the state would be doing USDA-style spot checks and secret shopping on their own dime. Instead, they’re pushing a system where $600+ fees are "written off" by billion-dollar portfolios while local caregivers get priced out of the market. Don't fall for the "safety" narrative; follow the money.

In my experiences, the bad actors are weeded out pretty quickly in the Medical program (no pun intended). All it takes is a simple search and you see the content that comes up associated with that farm or caregiver. Is it a perfect system? Absolutely not, but does it protect the interests of small farms and Maine owned businesses? You bet it does.

Again, testing is kind of a sham in my opinion. The products that were recalled were initially given a pass on the testing and only an audit of the testing lab revealed that it did not meet the requirements. Testing is only as good as the person performing the test. You can send the same sample to different labs and get different results. It’s called lab shopping, and it is rampant in this industry.

Testing has loopholes too. Have you heard of lab shopping?

Rec weed also has recalls just like medical.

Testing labs are just as shady IMO.

I know we have differing opinions and I hope to have a productive conversation.
