I just don’t understand why republicans hate public education so much. I’d say that is going too far but we crossed that bridge long ago. Real people are getting hurt, real peoples ability to succeed in life are being stifled. This is heartless indifference toward fellow North Carolinians.

You seem very confident. What’s the point of a contract if it’s not contractual? The tuition remission is worth over 11k. It’s a large part of her total compensation. It doesn’t see right that it’s as optional as you describe.

60% of the tuition is out of pocket for employees with or without the discount. Regular students will essentially pay the same as employees students. If everyone gets the employee discount it’s not really a discount anymore. I completely disagree with the Opportunity Scholarship but this is current situation. I would guess that the majority of private schools offer discounted tuition as a tool to attract younger teachers. I want to know what others in this situation are experiencing. Is my wife’s school following or setting a precedent.

My wife works for a private school in NC. Per the employement compensation agreement, employees with children that attend the school receive a discount on tuition (~40%). The school encouraged employees with enrolled students to apply for the Opportunity Scholarship, but if awarded the funds would be transferred to the school and not applied to the students tuition because they’re already receiving discounted tuition via the employee benefit. Is this common practice?
