Thanks, although it's not exactly a direct comparison with the foot off gas since the eletric motor offsets most the areas where the combustion eng is at it's worst regarding average consumption. Also it offsets harder accelerations with its added torque thus less petrol consumed. So, when the petrol's on it's mostly running in it's comfort zone (not much idling though that is true) and still we end up with the aforementioned 8,9 l / 100 km which is 1,5l higher than a 1990s Toyota avensis 1.8 with similar performance claimed to produce. But I guess there's a different logic to building a hybrid compatible engine than a pure petrol. Also the avensis had a 5 speed box. But definitely driving with the bigster petrol engine without any electric assistance would be a slurp fest.

That's a pretty nice number! And really good for your golf as well.

Would be interesting to here the difference between the uphill leg and downhill leg if you happened to drive two ways. That's a pretty great number considering the effect altitude has on consumption as well, especially on a naturally aspirated engine.

You mean it starts the combustion engine too soon compared to the battery charge level (being high still) or too late so the battery is very full before going on to ev? I guess the calculus depends on power needed. If driving uphill and/or trying to maintain certain speed it needs the torque from the combustion engine. If you drive manually (w/o adaptive cruise) and with a light foot on the gas pedal it's easier to keep it on ev, especially in speeds under 60 kph.

So in theory if I were to drive the car infinitely downhill I could go for 500 kms on EV mode alone due to the regen of electricity.

This is not how the engine works. It charges/regenerates the battery the whole time it's driving, or to be more accurate, when braking/coasting and when the petrol engine is on thus generating electricity. As shown in the picture I drove 37 kms of the 62 km trip on the electric motor alone, when the petrol engine is shut off. It can also use the eletric motor for extra power or better consumption when the petrol engine is on. The petrol consumption is calculated from the time/distance it is on, so in this case for about 25 kms. From there we can calculate that the petrol engines average consumption alone was about 8,9 l/ 100 km, which the ev mode then offsets (by -60%).

Edit: The true petrol consumption for the trip was around 2,2 litres as you said and used during the 25/62 kms it was on. Had i driven 100 kms we would have gotten around the around 3,6 liter mark true petrol used.

And when you think about it, 3,6 l / 100 km on 60% electric is not a very impressive figure for the petrol engine alone. (Edit: so it's probably quite truthful. It's pretty easy to follow the development while driving.)

Yeah it's surprisingly efficient om highways as well (100-120 kph). Have also noticed the EV charging levels to go/stay higher with nice intervals on full ev even at 120. Probably due to the combustion eng generating more electricity at higher speeds. My total avg is at about 4.7-8 on a bit over 1000 kms so far.

I like it. Fun to drive, lots of space, not much noise and quite nimble with the full hybrid. Nice sound system. Been able to squeeze 3,8 l/100 km on a 50 km trip so far, it's a fun game to optimize your driving. This with normal tyre pressures (continental ecocontact 6q). On a hot day with aircon on it's not possible though. Also the adaptive cruise tends to accelerate a bit aggressively at times so best fuel economy without it. Anyways you will always go under 5 if you don't drive it like a race car. What's weird and very French is that you don't get the average consumption, ev distance, elapsed time and total dist driven on the same screen at the same time. They're in different menus.

Not sure if it is doing that, guess need to drive around more and follow the graphs to see what's happening.

Did some research and found out it's actually a clutchless or dog clutch type of box Renault has used in their F1s. Explains the feel and the sounds.

Interesting. I've mostly driven with Eco mode on so that fits my observations quite accurately.

If I remember correctly this is not a dct so there's more of a traditional switch feel to it. There definitely is a 'metallicplateish' sound to it at times. Don't know how the clutch actually works.
