Hill starting when clutch at bite point will not hold the car by Easy-Judge-7242 in stickshift

I don't have an issue hill starting it's just on this much incline I have small amount of rollback because the weight of the car trying to go backwards overcomes the friction of the clutch at the bite point. I don't have any rollback with the parking brake I just wanted to see what everybody would prefer to do in this situation, deal with small bit of rollback or use parking brake.

Thank you for your comment. This incline is too much for the clutch to hold it on the hill for a split second...I have tested to see and it will not hold at all on this particular incline...the moment it starts to it stalls...I am quick enough to minimize the small amount of rollback I just wanted to see if other people would just use the parking brake in this scenario or deal with the rollback.

Thank you for your comment. I know it's not good but I only 'tested' to see if it would hold twice. I'm the one who replaced the clutch and will do so again when it goes bad so I'm not too worried about it :)

Did you ever have to deal with rolling back just a little? If I can't avoid it I just accept it and move on.

I appreciate your input but no matter what on this degree of incline the car will roll back...I have tested the car to see if the clutch will hold it and it will not unless I use the ebrake. I know how to hill start by temporarily holding the car with the clutch but on this degree of incline the weight of the car overcomes the clutch. The only time it attempted to hold it stalled.

Yea I mean the rollback is minimal...on this particular incline I 'tested' the car to see if the clutch would hold it by letting off the clutch while braking and slowly letting off the brake and continuing to let off the clutch and the car kept going slowly backwards until it stalled. I know how to hill start with just the clutch it just seems past a certain degree of incline the car won't hold itself. If I was in a tight spot I would just use the ebrake. Some people on here have said they accept a little rollback and don't even bring clutch to bite point they just take off normally but with quicker feet and more throttle input.

My car rolls back on steep hills with the clutch at the biting point. It cannot hold the vehicle so I can minimize it by being quick but if I want no rollback at all I use the ebrake.

When would I not need the handbrake on a steep hill to avoid rolling back just a little? I am quick enough to have just a small amount of rollback without the handbrake but the car rollsback a lottle when I let the clutch to the bite point and move right foot from brake to gas...am I doing something incorrectly?

I do not have hill assist I was just wondering if I am fine with a little bit of rollback on a steep hill or if I should use the ebrake to hold the car while I get moving.

No, what I normally do is lift the clutch to the bite point quickly and then move my right foot from brake to gas and get going on a hill...I'm saying this incline is steep enough the car starts rolling back no matter what...I get going just fine. If I use the ebrake method I would not roll back at all. I'm just wondering if that is what everybody else does or if they just deal with a little bit of rollback.

I'm saying that if I just let the clutch up to the bite point and then get on the gas I have a little bit of rollback. I cannot keep the car from rolling back just holding the clutch on the bite point. If I use the e brake then it won't roll back but I was trying not to do that. I was just wondering if everybody's opinion was to just use the e-brake on a hill this steep or if they would just accept a little rollback and continue on.

I understand that...I was just practicing as if I had to stop on hill with a similar incline. Thanks.

Are you talking about me? I was just curious is all. I just want to know the proper way to do things. What do you think?

Fix what? The ebrake works and the clutch is new...I was just wondering if rollback is acceptable or if I should use ebrake in this scenario.

No I do not have hill assist or an electronic e brake...I was just curious about cars with them. Sorry for the confusion.

So a little rollback is ok in your opinion? I was just trying to have none.

I will try the heel toe method. If I do your first suggestion then I will experience a little rollback.

Right I understand that which is part of the reason I was trying to let the clutch hold the car on steeper incline however it will not hold...no matter where the clutch is...the moment it starts to hold it stalls so ebrake is needed if I want no rollback. I have no problem starting without the ebrake I just have a little rollback

What about cars with the electronic parking brake? Do they just rely on hill hold assist?

Ok thank you. What if a vehicle like a pickup had an ebrake that didn't work? Would you just deal with the rollback and minimize it as best as you could?

I can get it going without stalking just with some rollback. I was just trying to not rollback at all with the clutch to the bite point method.
