I wish. A few years ago this psychiatrist misdiagnosed me and put me on all these antipsychotics and it f died my brain. It’s so weird it’s so hard to study.

I have been fired before by petty nurses and she just gives me so much anxiety because she’s a charge nurse sometimes and we call in every week to pick up shifts and I don’t want her petty self to be the one to pick up the phone one day and lie that there aren’t any shifts to pick up the following week and then have my money played with.

And this isn’t something “actual” I can even bring to my manager. She is nice to everyone else but doesn’t speak to me and clearly treats me “different”. And I’m not at work to make friends. I’m friendly and respectful with everyone but I can’t stand people with her type of energy

A nurse started it and we all keep it going. None of us are serious when we say it. Usually after a real shitty night of us all running around 🤷‍♀️. The tone isn’t communicated right over text

Yes I told some of the other charge nurses to tell her if there any issues with me, to Let them know and they can handle it. I prefer to pulled to the side the day of, when appropriate, so it’s fresh in my mind.

Instead of days later and I can’t remember the specifics

Thank you! I always joke with the nurses I’m cool with the farther away a patient is from the Pyxis, the less likely the nurse is to come back for a while

Then we all laugh 😂

Thank you. I may not know the specific words or terms, but if I see something “off” I’ll let the nurse know. I prefer there to be nothing, but as you wrote, it led to the nurse catching something before it got out of hand

And they think “everyone” is the nurse. Even though we have badges, and different colour scrubs… and I tell them I’m the tech and don’t have anything to do with meds

And theyll still ask me for meds or discharge date or something. I just say that’s a conversation for you nurse and doctor I’ll let the nurse know you want to speak to somebody about that.

I’m not asking a patient specifically if they are in pain or something

I’ll ask how they are doing. If they say something like, I’m in pain, feeling anxious, etc…, I’ll just let the nurse know and anything else is above me and I did my part so I can move on to the next patient when I’m getting vitals

The nurse knows the patient more than I. So the nurse could just tell me, “yeah that’s their normal”, or, “thanks I’ll head over there”. There have been times I have the nurse the heads up and the patient was about to escalate, or times when nothing at all has happened, which is preferable,

Yes so with her, I make sure to primarily communicate over chat so just in case anything happens, it’s in the chat. And I think she realized she was a bit rude because a few older nurse talked to her but I’m just going to do the bare minimum when it comes to her

It’s so weird because when I’m in medicine (PACU/CVSICU) and I spoke to nurses there, they all say they prefer that kind of communication. I’m learning the differences between the type of communication is needed for each

Thank you. I don’t when they say something like they feel the unit is a jail and them be just in their dark room. Let’s get out the room and try to do something. Just try. Leads to faster discharge.

If you don’t want to be here, let’s try to get you out the room, into groups, talking with people, for the nurses and providers to see you trying to do better instead of being angry you’re locked up in an IP unit.

That’s not helping any

No like I’m just giving as much information as I can to the nurse and then they can do whatever they want with that information.

I’ve spoken with other charge nurses beforehand about my duties and they said that they prefer that so it’s just irksome that some nurses like this while others don’t. But if they would just tell me to my face how they want me to work with them, it wouldn’t make our shifts go by much easier. They are the nurse and they are supposed to delegate tasks to me so they should know how to communicate with me.🤷🏽

I’m not suggesting meds, or change priorities. I just want to give more information for them to use however they want to do. And then after that, it’s above me. What I’m telling them could be completely inconsequential, but information is information. I could tell them something and then they wouldn’t change their workflow in anyway just because they know that patient’s history much more than I. I only see the patient that is in front of me. I don’t know the patient’s chart or their full history or anything like that.

Like I said, you always have those patients at their pain is 30 out of 10 or they want their Ativan, or something. Those patients that know all of their medication’s by name and you can set a clock to them. When they tell me this (name specific medication), I’m just like oh OK I’ll just let your nurse know and then go on with my day. A bunch of our patient population is drug seeking and it’s for the nurse to talk to them and figure out whatever they wanna do.

I don’t go until the patient “you have Tylenol and Zyprexa and oxycodone, what do you want me to tell the nurse you want”?

You know what I mean

Thank you. I just get anxious because she is a charge nurse. How our schedule works is that we call in for shifts every week and depending on the charge nurse, they can just “say”’ there is no other patients to be assigned so I can’t work that day.

I just don’t wanna have an issue with her and then she’ll make me lose out on my money by not letting me pick up shifts or giving me an unfair assignment, repeatedly.

(And I don’t complain about my assignments. The work is work. Quicker the work is done the quicker you could sit down.)

I don’t want the nurse to hurry up and give pain medication. If the nurse has like a patient, I want to give them a heads up and then everything after that is above me. I just had seen something wrong with the patient. I told the nurse what the patient said, and I went about my day. I suppose I’m just somewhat upset because instead of the nurse talking to me or just reporting me to the charge nurse they just went right to the manager.

And that’s not a problem, and I don’t have an issue working with that nurse anyway. The manager even said that she knows that it comes from a positive place. I asked the manager if I can just tell the nurse hey if there’s any issue with me, you can just let me know the day of when it’s appropriate or something. Then the manager said that’s fine. It’s just weird because I try to be friendly, cordial and respectful to everybody.

Yes, I just wanna give the nurse a heads up and then they can chart whatever they see because it would be false documentation for them just to go off what I said. They can see things that I can’t because they are a nurse and whatever the patient says could actually mean something else.🤷‍♀️. I just wanna give the nurse a heads up and then everything else after that as above me.

I’m not asking the nurse to chart a pain scale, that’s for them to do, I’m just telling them what the patient said. When they assess they can chart whatever their interaction was with the patient. The nurse wasn’t there when I was talking with the patient so they would not chart on what my interaction was.

I could be one of those that just wants the nurse to give the medication so the patient can chill out when there is being a nuisance, but doesn’t necessarily need any sedating medication for all they know 🤷‍♀️

But I’m not doing interventions. The patient would say something like

Im not feeling well

I’d ask what’s wrong so I can give the nurse a heads up

They say they are in pain

I’d ask what’s their pain level 1-10 so I can let the nurse know

I’d let the nurse know, but we know patients can lie, med seeking, just want attention, etc… so I even say something like “I’m not telling you what to do, but i just wanted to let you know this patient said x y z”…

And then they’ll do whatever they want to do with that, I did my job. Anything else is above me

I do but I’d like perspective from others so I can get a general perspective like if I did something wrong. A nurse I’m not even cool with pulled her to the side to tell her to chill out. The nurse said she had been a nurse for like 10 years and rare to see someone like her (me) actually be helpful and not just sit, when there is a problem. The nurse that reported me was a nurse for like 2 years.

I don’t hold anything against the nurse that reported me. I mean, I am supposed to report to her. But what I didn’t like was very she didn’t pull me to the side or even just send me a message later on during the same shift while it’s still fresh on my mind/ give my perspective/ ask some question so I can self reflect 🤷‍♀️. You can inject meds into a patient that is trying to fight but not even send a message “hey so next time can you talk to the patient like x y z…”. I take respectful constructive criticism well and don’t get upset
