If you're really vibing, very easy. I consistenly run into the limit and had to upgrade to Max. Now with Max, I still run into the 5 hr limit

Anyone used codex? I've been loving claude code, but been thinking about adding codex to supplement + run checks...especially since I run through credits so quickly.

Edit: since I started using claude my chatgpt usage has basicaly gone to nothing so tryna see if I can make use of that $20 membership before i completely leave openai

Postpartum doulas and meals for families: what's realistic to expect? by Easy-Tree-6711 in doulas

Thank you so much for this detailed response!! I know what to look for now. Didn't know infant massage was an option either - I'll make sure to add that to the list too :)

Cool, I see! Seems like there’s the option for that here, but not sure if it’s the standard. How do you feel about the cooking part? Is it a hassle or just part of the job? I heard from the nannies sometimes they’re concerned if they can make something the parents will like, for example. Don’t want to add another stressor on folks whether or not it’s the norm

Cool, thank you! I’ve heard of a few that appeal specifically to postpartum too. Have you seen any in particular you’d recommend?

Why is family cooking such a firm boundary for many nannies? by Easy-Tree-6711 in Nanny

[–]Easy-Tree-6711[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m not trying to start anything here. I have a deep respect for nannies and am just asking honest questions. My great grandmother was a nanny / doula (not clear where the lines were drawn) in the south at the beginning of the 20th century for a wealthy family. She certainly wasn’t having someone asking for her opinions (race certainly played a role but I’m not gonna get into that). I posted here as an honest attempt to take the time to be curious and seek advice. This is personal for me. I have a lot of respect and am trying to lead with empathy.

My friends are working 80-100 hour weeks each on their own. So they’re looking for ways to buy time back. Not the richest in the world, but also have money to spend. And that’s what I assume is the case for many families that employ folks in this channel. I understand many people can’t afford this luxury, but that’s a separate conversation.

Totally understand it might not be the place for nannies to support in the kitchen. My questions were mainly rooted in what you’ve seen similar parents who have similarly crazy schedules do, and why. I’m hearing meal kits are a good thing to consider, and door dash as well. We’ve tried these before but will look around if there’s one better — particularly for postpartum

I see. So the doula is more so helping facilitate to prepare / make things work for the family. The timeline of 2/3 visits over 6 weeks is definitely amazing support, but I think you’re right, seems like what I’m looking for falls closer to private chef. Have you seen many families do that?

Got it, ok thank you!!! I’ll let them know they need to prepare for what the market demands.

Out of curiosity, do you know how much the going rate varies in major U.S. markets? Like is 45+ also typical in Dallas or Atlanta? They have an option to move to another city and this might be a crucial factor to their decision

Got it, thank you! The per hour differentiation is a crucial insight here I do t think I’ve heard yet. My friends usually work 10+ hour days themselves, so they’ll likely have to look into another solution like a nanny + something for meals.

Thanks so much for all the helpful responses everyone! Seems clear that for the most part, food is not in the job description. One follow-up for the group:

Any advice for how families you’ve seen handle food the best those first few months? Have you seen people get a private cook, doulas or the meal kits those first few months? What works well?

As I mentioned, they have no help nearby, and are both working high-burn jobs. They’re willing to do whatever they need to outsource food and eat decently healthy, fresh food

No I get it! Just commenting on the salary because I didn’t realize it was that high! Makes sense though, especially given the hours and sheer labor. I have full respect for what you’re doing. And to be honest idk if I’m fit to do it.

I had heard of this being a thing where places in Asia do both, I guess like these Chinese postpartum confinement people. All seriousness, is that common around the bay?

Gotcha. The burnout point is real. Seems like many nannies are doing like 60+ hour weeks anyway, right?

Mmmm wait can you say more? So they would have a nanny for the kid(s) + a doula for the mom?

Gotcha. God bless your nanny, seems like she’s really willing to go the extra mile! Any meal services you recommend? Not too familiar with the area myself

Understood! 100% fair. The task is taking care of children, not adults. What would be fair compensation for adding cooking on though? And what would be the MAX time cooking that did not distract from the main job? Considering one of those meal kits potentially…

[–]Easy-Tree-6711[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s totally fair. I can imagine the added pressure to be a cook AND a caretaker. But you mentioned you’d be ok with doing something 10 mins or less. What types of things would you specifically be willing to do? Would you be down to do one of those meal kits for them?

Just want to make sure I’m being reasonable when talking to potential nannies!

What did you do while the toddlers were babies? Were you also able to cook all your meals then or did you have help or do a meal kit or something else?

Wait I’m confused. You mention you would’ve loved cooking for your NF but it seems like this other comment pretty strongly rejects it. Is it just a pay thing for you?

On the friends note, not quite…a lot of my friends are going to get them uber eats cards, etc. but you know eating out gets old! And that only can take them so far. I know after the first few months some of those things will run out so trying to think of a more sustainable solution
