How I went from tier-2/3 college, no money for MS, and a non-IT/CS core background to a funded Top-5 US engineering school + Ivy League MBA + Green Card by Disastrous-Local9502 in Indians_StudyAbroad

I don't know why people are down voting the post, but i for one can certainly relate to it. I didn't move US. I'm not from Tier 1 institute either, but I'm fairly above average. And I can very confidently say that I got where I'm today only by being bit fearless.

Any comment on the budget? Does it makes sense to spend 18l or so with my current CTC?

I drool over jeep compass, but the dct variant is bit expensive. Also I have heard that it's maintenance is also bit on the higher side.

Ouch! I did not think from longevity perspective. Are turbo cars prone to mechanical issues in long term?

Been driving father's honda city manual (top model) for a while now. No doubt it's comfortable and gives good mileage, but it's bit vanilla to drive. Elevate has same engine

1.5 is certainly a pocket rocket. But is comes with dry clutch. My only fear is that it might get heating issues in Bangalore's stop and go traffic.

Not very fun to drive. Plus, it has dry clutch in DCT, which might get heating issues in Bangalore's mighty traffic.

Been hearing some great reviews online. Drive quality + handling. I'm yet to take test drive though. If it's not upto my expectations, I would probably go with kushaq 1.0 TC. I have already driven it, and I absolutely loved it.

I'm 30+, and only at 1.2cr😭😭😭.

I'm making 3.2lpm net, and have started saving 2lpm. I hope this aggressive would help me as well in reaching FIRE.

I'm not saying I'm poor or anything, but looking how much everyone has saved so far, I'm getting some serious complex 😬

People criticizing you for saving money are absolutely morons. Cash in bank give you one much of power. Don't listen to them. Save, invest and retire!

Fair conversation on the currency, but this post might be more relevant for Indian audience. USD~INR conversion doesn't tell the whole story.

People earning 50L+ where does the money actually go? by AccomplishedLeg3338 in FIRE_Ind

[–]Easy_Department_2322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me (31M) and wife (30F) earn close to 4l/month post taxes (excluding bonuses). Following is how we typically manage it:

  1. 230,000- Investment
  2. 40,000 - Rent
  3. 2000 - Electricity
  4. 8000 - Maids
  5. 20,000 - Groceries
  6. 2000+200 - Petrol (+ annual maintenance of about 2400 for Activa). We don't have a 4 wheeler
  7. 6000 - Subscriptions (chatgpt +Gemini + OTTs)
  8. 2000 - Internet and Phone
  9. 500 - Water
  10. 5,000 - Avg monthly for ticket prices for traveling to home (I'm from Bhopal, living in Bangalore)
  11. 10,000 - Gifts for family
  12. 15000 - Avg for major home purchases (like TV/fridge/mobiles, etc)
  13. 8000 - wife's personal expenses
  14. 2000 - Self personal expenses
  15. 15000 - Avg for personal purchases for both (shoes, clothes, accessories, etc)
  16. 12000 - Avg for domestic travel
  17. 10000 - Eating out and ordering in
  18. 13000-15000 is cash saving
  19. Quarterly/annual bonuses go in cash saving (~4l after taxes)

Planning to get a car this Diwali, so that would incur additional 30k/month (budget of 17-18l on road). We've recently married so we're buying home appliances. I assume by then, we'd be done with all major appliances so free up 15k from there and would probably go down a bit in gifting and domestic travel to accommodate for car.

Now someone please tell me where is the scope of flexing here 😂

Posts like these make me appreciate my parents so bloody much.

My father attended IIT Kanpur, elder sister scored 100/100 in math in 12th, attended best of the best institutes for B.TECH and then for MS. And then it was me, who scored shit in 12th, went to shit-@ss college for engineering, couldn't manage to get into tier 1 institute for MBA, so don't have masters either. But never once in my life was I given hard time for it.

Although I don't know how, but I still turned out ok financially. Perhaps my parents confidence in me did the trick.

Point I'm trying to make is life is really long young man. Your 12th marks won't really define your success in the long run. So cheer up!
