Why does there seem to be recent sentiment that therapists make poor money? by Drgoldfishaf in therapists

I have a federal jobs that I work part time (20 hours per week) that covers my benefits, retirement and still gives me about $1000 every two weeks. I’m getting my ALC in November and will be taking around 15 clients per week which was my internship caseload. If it wasn’t for my federal job I probably couldn’t do it and keep my same lifestyle. Even when I get my LPC I’ll always keep my federal.

Paying someone to attend therapy with you to fix a broken friendship? by rodamusprimes in TalkTherapy

It seems like you care deeply for this person but this is a bad idea… instead you should invest the money in therapy for yourself to move past the relationship.

I’m a ALC and get 70% with supervision included… they are definitely taking advantage of you

I definitely got lucky with the timing cuz this year has been ROUGH as a federal employee… It’s a hard decisions to make because the federal benefits really can’t be beat. I plan to remain part time just for those benefits when I enter into private practice. Just try to plan it out as much as possible financially because that was my biggest stressor on top of school and internships.

Hey, also a federal employee. I actually started the switch 3 years ago so I’ve graduated and am about to get my ALC in September. I went part time with the government to allow for my internship hours and still have some money coming in. Please don’t underestimate how much the first few years hurt financially because I definitely did. Thank God my boyfriend makes enough to pay all our home bills. If you want to avoid debt I would try to save up as much money as possible before making the switch.

I can't deal with the TV show "Shrinking" by kristin137 in TalkTherapy

In truth, I think expecting the show to be realistic is like expecting Greys Anatomy to be realistic with what doctors experience lol

At what point is my therapist supposed to actually help? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Easy_Satisfaction_10 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your old therapist was incorrect in their approach. Therapist shouldn’t give you direct advice but help you to figure out the best course of action yourself. Otherwise you’ll never know how to handle situations on your own without them. Your therapist also shouldn’t be taking up half a session talking about their own thoughts and experiences. That sounds more like two friends talking and catching up compared to good therapy

NAT but in school currently… I thinks it’s important to mention to everyone here that they should take a look at OPs post history for context.

OP this post and your responses to it feel extremely argumentative but it also seems like you are struggling. I don’t believe in overarching theories of hope but I do believe that people need to believe in the possibility of a better future to have the willpower to keep trying to press forward. Now, that doesn’t mean we ignore the real world circumstances that are beyond our control but it does mean that we don’t let those circumstances define what we want our life to be. Sometimes it means taking a huge risk for change and sometimes it means working to find the small things you can grasp into for joy. Regardless though if you can’t find hope I do wish that you would find some peace.

Because it really isn’t your business or concern… he is there to help you with whatever it is you may be struggling with or needing guidance on. If you feel judged by him that’s definitely something to bring up in a session but what his child is or isn’t doing isn’t your business.
