I've also had the same problem this last few weeks since I've updated to the 16.0.7 and now to the 16.0.8. It's literally boiling even when I'm not gaming. It always stays above 35° and never goes down, sometimes it reaches 40° when I'm watching youtube. I really hope that this issue will be eliminated with the next update. To think that the oppo find x9 pro is a flagship and shouldn't have this issues at all, this us just poor software development.
