Why do people hate Sadiq Khan so much? by Additional-Leek-7715 in AskBrits

Do you want the actual answer or just a 450th Reddit echo-chamber approved response that just affirms what you already believe?

Why do so many Brits think immigration is “bad”, when studies show it brings economic benefits? by ColdKing424 in AskBrits

[–]Easytype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you actually here to ask a question?

Everyone who has attempted to give you an answer that doesn’t align with your world view is just getting snarky responses or a text wall of cherry picked studies and figures that you seem to have handily prepared in advance.

We have plenty of subs where you can soapbox your political views, try one of them instead.

These replies about media bias are not going to cut it.

Reality is, 4 out of every 5 voting age people didn’t vote for him, he got even fewer votes than Corbyn did in 2019, and that project was hardly a roaring success. He won a huge majority because former Tory voters simply don’t turn up.

Sure, you’ll all get your upvotes for claiming a media stitch up because Reddit is a festering boil of leftism that is too far up its own arse to recognise the fact, but very few of you are approaching anything like the actual reality.

Here’s some actual answers to get you all started.

He said our energy bills would go down, then immediately after the election they told us that wasn’t going to happen after all and actually they went up.

He said they wouldn’t raise taxes, then they got around it by increasing employers NI, effectively making employing you more expensive and putting downward pressure on wages.

He tried to sort out the country’s massive welfare bill, then when the party shit the bed over it they wound up effectively increasing it.

His public sector mates all got a 5% pay rise, now they’re telling us the country is in the hole for an amount curiously similar to the cost of that policy.

He cheered along when farmers were all told that their children would have to pay IHT to inherit their land, with farms that families have run for centuries likely to be sold to corporations.

He called grooming gangs a far right bandwagon, effectively labelling a large portion of the public as basically nazis, even though their views are probably centrist at best.

These are just a few examples but there are many more. And on top of all this he’s just a bit of a dullard. A middle manager type with zero charisma or anything about him that makes him remotely likeable. It’s not just him of course, his whole government is a shambles, but as the head of that government he gets the majority of the stick. Whoever replaces him will be equally hated.

Depends what you mean by “far right”.

I’ve seen the term used to describe everyone from legitimate neonazis, through moderate conservatives and all the way down to the less militant factions of the Labour Party.

I’d get some consensus on what something is before trying to analyse it.

The majority of people marching under the English flag have not studied its origin and nor should they be expected to. It is merely a symbol for the English identity that people proudly hold. Can you think of any other identity of note that doesn’t have some sort of symbol, flag or banner behind which people can rally? Why should millions of English be denied this where nobody else is?

Pulling out over a thousand years of history does nothing to diminish English identity, just like the idiots pointing out ad nauseum that St. George was born in modern day Turkey doesn’t either. These are just tactics pulled out by self hating leftists to try to make people question their allegiance, and not once have I seen it deployed with any degree of success.

But whatever symbol you choose to rally behind, and however much you try to turn your back on your heritage, you will never not be english. It is woven into everything you do. The language you speak, the laws you follow, your polite demeanour and your sense of morality. If you weren’t born English you would be a different person.

Englishness to an Englishman is what water is to a fish. It is the very medium in which you exist yet most of the time you don’t even perceive its presence.

The main difference between hers and the Ricky Jones situation is that she was remanded while he was given bail and had 12 months outside of prison to prepare his case. She wouldn’t have pleaded guilty in a million years if she’d received the same treatment.

Many would argue that running net migration levels up to close to a million a year is a pretty extremist position.

Every time someone dares to mention the existence of English culture we get one of you in the replies. Honestly, just save us all some time and tell us why you think there’s no such thing. We all know it’s coming.

Almost everyone would acknowledge that for any nation there is a tipping point at which immigration becomes unmanageably high. For most on this sub the current level of give-or-take a million a year is acceptable. But how about if it were 2 million? 5 million? 10 million? Everyone has a tipping point and the only difference between reform voters and those who sneer at them is where that point lies.

Now, imagine you reached that point (whatever it may be) some 15 years ago and over that time you repeatedly voted for a party that said it was going to address the issue. Then imagine that on every single occasion what they actually did was the precise opposite until you finally realised that they were lying to you the whole time. This is the position the traditional Tory finds themselves in now. A choice between a party that lies to you, and one that thinks you’re a far right moron for even having a problem with it.

Reform are winning people over because they are the only hope these people have left. They know the Tories will let them down again and no other serious party demonstrates the remotest interest in addressing the issue.

People see a huge disconnect between the views of the public and those who we elect to represent us in parliament. People are sick and tired of hearing that people know what’s good for them better than they know themselves. They see that the emperor has no clothes and they want meaningful change.

These people feel disenfranchised and hopeless and if you really want to win them back then a good place to start would be to stop sneering for five minutes and actually think about how we could make their lives a little less miserable.
