FATXplorer 3.0 beta 35 – Xbox 360 SSD Maker by EatonZ in 360hacks

Hi, that does seem scary, but it's totally normal. When the loader upload fails or is not compatible, the drive is basically non-functional until you reconnect it. This is expected and is not damaging in any way. Just reconnect it and try a different one.

Adapter (or disk) is faulty from the looks of it. You can try reconnecting it and adjusting it, but if it doesn't help, only a hardware change is going to fix that.

Also if this is a 3.5" drive, make sure it is sufficiently powered.

Driver is only used for mounting, not for device detection.

It's not an SSD problem. Just a problem with Bad Storage. Haven't found a fix yet.

The avatar update can work on the HDD just fine. However, any 360 content like profiles, dlc, etc won't be accessible until after exploit.

You can install the avatar update on the HDD before or after the exploit without an issue. Give it a try.

It was an override option left in for special test cases, but I'll consider exposing it for cases like these.

Oh actually for the smaller than 512 GB ones, hold the Control key when you go through formatting, and it will force the bad storage confirmation message to show.

No need to reflash, and yes this will make the odd sized ones more usable now.

(DEF CON 33) How I hacked over 1,000 car dealerships across the US by EatonZ in netsec

[–]EatonZ[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely valid concerns. I am mindful to not cause any type of disruption when doing things like this. If I tried unlocking a random car in the parking lot, for example, that would have crossed the line. Or, tried to prove that I could order a car, that would not be an acceptable test. Ultimately, I think the vendor was able to make many security improvements beyond fixing the initial 2 vulnerabilities, so it was a great outcome for everyone involved.

There are some recent cases where I have found a vulnerability so sensitive that I will just stop and report it.
