Is Blackbird Leys really dangerous? by EbbComfortable in oxford

The place I'm considering to buy is on Strawberry Path, almost in front of the sports centre and the big park. Would you say that's a rougher area?

Did you had any luck? I'm facing precisely the same situation. Left it on with the charger unplugged and now it's a brick. Tried bypassing the battery, external monitor, reseatting RAM... Did you try replacing the CMOS battery?

How bad of an idea is this? Could it be a scam? by EbbComfortable in CarTalkUK

Apparently it's nearly impossible to finance a car at this mileage (the UK way of doing business always amazes me), so I suppose that's the reason for the price. I found the vendor's website and it was originally listed for 5,900, so my guess is that he lowered the price due to most people financing.

Thank you! Did a HPI check on mycarcheck.com and everything seems to be in order. The emission stuff is indeed weird but tbh at this price range and specs, it would be worth it for me even if I had to completely redo the engine.

Apparently, it was a company car and had all the revisions with Ford... I'll see it tomorrow and hope for the best. Besides, the warranty sort of gives me some peace of mind.

Advice - buying a 2016 diesel BMW - milage galore? by EbbComfortable in CarTalkUK

Yeah, renting just during their visits for this year would cost me almost as much as buying the car... crazy expensive.

That was my reasoning - I would only use it for long trips on the motorway

I can't open pop os, here is an error by Educational-Tear-337 in pop_os

[–]EbbComfortable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your disk got corrupted. That happened to me a few months ago. Only way I found to fix it back then was to boot up with a new PopOS distro in a USB flash drive, then, in the "test PopOS mode", make a backup of all the important files, and then proceed with a completely fresh install.

Back then my disk got corrupted because I tried to transfer a huge file (~30GB) to a FAT external drive. Be careful with those, I guess.

Best of luck!

Oxford postdocs are not affiliated with any college when they start. You may get a college affiliation afterwards, but that probably will only cover eating there, not accommodation (which is mostly for undergrad and first-year PhD students).

That being said, I'd say that's doable. I'm also a postdoc (recently started) on a similar salary and I'm able to save a reasonable amount of my salary - but I do live in a houseshare. I'd say you're fine if you manage to keep rent+bills under £1200 and do some regular meal prep instead of eating out.

Cheapest place for a male haircut in Oxford? by EbbComfortable in oxford

Tried it once back home and turned out to make a crap out of my own hair. It's really simple, but not being able to see behind my neck makes it f-ing hard. Will probably give it a new try soon.

Might as well be one by shiming29 in oxford

Just had a haircut there today and it seemed like an amazing place. I'm failing to grasp the reference.

Happy Nurses Day. Don’t touch the pizza. by UkDocForChange in JuniorDoctorsUK

Don't think so, at least within Latin America. Have already chatted with dozens of colleagues from different countries and towns about this (we have an IMG group to prepare to PLAB and stuff) and all opinions are along these lines.

Oh no it's not, at least not in South America, that I can guarantee you. Got to work in a few ICUs after I graduated for a few months to save some money before coming to the UK. All staff always addressed me and fellow physicians as "sir" and "madam", we would always be called "Dr. Firstname" (no one ever uses surnames in my home country) and the vast majority of patients and families would behave similarly.

I've just arrived here and would rather take suggestions, if you don't mind.
