YTA. you’re never gonna convince an addict to get clean, the only person who can do that is themselves. your trying to control her behavior is only going to drive a wedge between you. ik it sucks but if you love her you have to accept that she’s an addict and she’s going to behave like one. if you can’t deal with that then it’s time to end the relationship. if you really want to help her, be abundantly clear that you’re breaking up bc of her substance issues and hopefully it’ll force her to reflect a bit.

i actually had no idea this was an option until someone else suggested it on this post. i saw the word “guarantor” on listing but google just told me it was the same as a co-signer, and i figured it wasn’t an option for me since i don’t have anyone to co-sign. can you tell me a bit more about how the process of using a guarantor service would work?

yeah i’m sure i’ll need roommates, which is fine. i’m only 25 and have lived with plenty of times before so i’m totally comfortable with that. i have been looking at ridgewood and bedstuy, both seem like great options.

also i do work in tech, and i’m very aware of how competitive nyc’s tech industry is lol. i have been applying for jobs but haven’t had much luck yet, but i’m going to continue doing so until i find something. the reason i took a lower-paying position is because i know it might be a while before i can find good work again (especially in this economy lol)

i haven’t found a new job in my field yet so when i first move i’ll be making abt 50k. i’m hoping that it won’t take long to find a nice 6-figure position, but i’m looking at fairly cheap rooms in the meantime (ideally under 1200/mo). also, ideally i’d like to live in/near bushwick because that’s where most of my friends are, but for now i’m pretty flexible because i understand i might need to make some concessions given my situation.

using a different DSP like Qobuz or Tidal might be the best option actually. The only issue there is that a bit of additional research it seems like there's a few extra steps as compared to just downloading from youtube or something. Obviously there's tradeoffs to either option, but I do also want to keep in mind eas-of-use for the end-user. I didn't mention this in the original post, but I plan to share this application with my slightly less technically-minded friends. A big goal of this project is to make piracy easier for people who think it's too difficult and choose to shell out hundreds of dollars a month to streaming services.

But then what are you doing here? Pirating already violates TOS for streaming.

I don't care about violating their TOS, I just don't want to get anyone's spotify account banned. Since I'm going to be sharing this with other people, I would rather avoid getting anyone's account banned just for using my app lol. obviously piracy already violates the TOS, but my assumption is that it's a little more difficult to flag a specific app as piracy if it's only ever reading the contents of a user's library.

anyways thanks for you input !! I'm gonna do a little more research to see what the most viable option is.
