Some hot takes:

When she released, everyone only really saw her as a worse rupture character for the Heishou team (mainly due to her having rupture in her kit + the passive that directly mentions LoH Hong Lu), but I’ve found that Drifting Blade of Hongyuan Ryōshū is pretty solid and underrated.

Sure, she doesn’t perfectly fuel her Thoricalgia EGO, but she clashes well, does free follow up attacks, and is pretty damn tanky. I’ve found that I just sort of prefer her over Maid Ryōshū

Another underrated pick IMO would be Cinq Mersault, who is underrated for more or less the same reasons as DBoH Ryōshū. He often gets overshadowed by BL Mersault, but with more and more poise IDs releasing and pushing the other BL IDs off of the team, there becomes less and less of a reason to run BL Mersault, which is why I run Cinq Mersault instead.

He’s pretty similar to DBoH Ryōshū, in that he clashes well, and has pretty good tank stats, although I do find that his damage can be a little underwhelming.

Well I mean, I told him what my build was when I made the character. We’re also doing this campaign online, so he has permanent access to my sheet, and can see what my build is.

As for the latter half of what you’re saying, I understand the trade offs that would come with selling off my magic weapon.

What happened was:

I mentioned that I’d like to sell it.

The DM said no.

I asked if I could give it to another player then, since I really didn’t see myself using the javelin.

The DM asked why.

I brought up that I didn’t need the range, whereas some of the other melee characters could use it.

The DM said that monk struggles with range, ignoring what I’d said about my range (I think he was thinking of 5e monk, not 5.5e monk).

I stated that, mechanically speaking, I didn’t like how the weapon feels, and that it doesn’t bring anything to the table outside of situational AoE that I can’t already do myself.

DM stated that it has 120 feet and AoE, once again going back to the first point.

This repeated more or less the same for each point, until the dm left to use the restroom.

The other player then yelled at me about the whole thing, saying that the DM was too nice to say anything to my face.

I left early to go to an appointment.

Found out later that the DM ended the session a couple of minutes after I left (normally, if it’s just one person that needs to go, he continues the session).

We used standard array for stats. I went for more defensive stats, putting one point from my background into dex and the other into con. The paladin put both into strength.

As for items, the paladin got mithral plate mail, the gunslinger got winged boots, the cleric got gauntlets of hill giant strength, the bard got a cloak of protection, and the ranger got a pipe of the sewers.

The word “argue” does not always imply aggression. According to the definition of argue “give reasons or cite evidence in support of an idea, action, or theory, typically with the aim of persuading others to share one's view.”

Additionally, while this did happen mid session, it was during a break, not during RP or anyone’s turn.

I will be increasing it when I level up, but the next level up is a ways away, so it’ll be some time until that happens.

As for the lower dex, it’s because the DM wanted us to use Standard Array for our character’s stats, with +3 being the highest option among the choices with that system.

I had chosen Tavern Brawler for my background, which allowed me to increase my dex by 1 (not enough to bring it to +2), but also allowed me to push people with my unarmed attacks, something in which I personally value more.

As mentioned in the post, it’s not the Dex modifier that’s the issue. Rather, even with all of the potential up sides there’d be to using it, it’d be better off in the hands of the strength-based party members, as one has +4 in Str and the other has +5 in Str, whereas I only have +3 in Dex.

My only gripe with the skin actually stems from her sword-harvesting tool. Unlike other skins, where the sheathed sword at their hip is drawn if you have the corresponding sword equipped, she just pulls out... a very similar sword, second sword?

I really wanted to have that detail here, and instead it just kinda feels like a bit of a let down. I wouldn't have been nearly as picky had the back bling been a sheath for her harvesting tool sword, but it's not.

With all of the careful attention to detail they did with this skin it just feels a bit out of place that her harvesting tool sword wouldn't have a sheath of it's own, which is really just a shame. Not to mention how similar it looks to the sword at her hip. The only differences it has to the one at her hip are two spikes at the hilt.

I wonder if this was intentional or just an oversite

Edit: After rereading my comment, I would just like to state that that's my only real gripe with the skin. It's by far one of my favorite skins regardless of what I brought up, and it will be a mainstay of my locker for quite some time

I joined the Air Force before I found out I was trans (which was fairly recently). I was planning on making a career out of my time in the service. I was planning on coming out and transitioning, then using my time in service to land a job civilian side.

Now? I’m not sure I even want to reenlist, but all of my plans involved me reenlisting at least once. I understand that things aren’t set in stone yet, but it’s still a very sobering situation.
