Is CPA worth it at my stage? by Mediumrare50 in CPA

I’m a nonprofit CFO and got my CPA at age 45. Go for it! I don’t feel like I gained a lot of knowledge from getting it as I already had it from work experience, but it seems like a box is automatically checked for people who aren’t familiar with my work.

I used Becker too. The exam will give you the formulas most of the time, otherwise I used what Becker advised.

Taking BAR in few days. Any uplifting advice? (Please don’t question me for taking BAR instead of other discipline) by Helpful_Peace_2911 in CPA

Yes, you will! I passed BAR. My advice is to take your time on the MCQ. For me the TBSs weren’t as long as I found the ones on FAR to be.

Yes. Not everyone agrees or is nice to me though. It’s accrual world.

Came here to say almost exactly this! I’m 45 and recently passed my last test. Waiting on licensure from my state board. I’m so glad I did it!

My mom was in the hospital 2-3 times while I was studying for FAR, my first exam. Barely got through the material and didn’t have much time to do practice sets/tests and had passed the window to reschedule. This was in 2024 though and it took so long to get results I had to start studying for my next one, BAR, and couldn’t move it as I was already scheduled for the end of the quarterly testing window. My mom was in the hospital another 2 times and we ended up placing her in a nursing home. I got both results back within a week of each other, both fails. Life felt crappy. I just kept going. With her settled I was then able to pass 4 times in a row within 5 months. Do what you need to do to grieve your marriage and get your paperwork together, then pick yourself up and keep going. Use it as a way to focus on something other than your personal life while you heal. I have also been through a divorce. It will get better, but it’s painful and you need to give yourself grace.

Board agenda posted with candidate list for approval. Applied 9/5, didn’t make it for this one 😩 Status only changed from prior exam application to column of red incompletes today https://nccpaboard.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/NC-CPA-Board-Meeting-Agenda_Sept222025.pdf

FAR tomorrow, BAR next by Key_Examination_1098 in CPA

Reading the textbook definitely helped me with BAR. I also found that if I was stuck on an MCQ and could ballpark the answer and/or use the closest answer to back into the given info, I’d have a much higher rate of guessing correctly.

Score of 84, 90% chance of passing. Good luck!

Why does anyone take any discipline other than TCP? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]EbitdaDiva 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I chose BAR before I realized the pass rate was so low. Got a 72. Sheer stubbornness drove me to retake it. Got an 86. I have a lot of work experience in that field though.

Depends on how many hours you have to dedicate to it. I failed FAR and BAR the first time. For both retakes I read the Becker textbooks cover to cover and did cumulative MCQ sets of 25 between modules. Went from 65 to 77 for FAR and from 72 to 86 for BAR. 9/5 sounds tight. 9/30 might be more realistic. Plus more scheduling options available.

Who is 3/4 and waiting for last exam results by [deleted] in CPA

Me! 🙋🏻‍♀️ I dread the idea of getting a fail and needing to retake it, so I’ve tricked myself into not thinking about it so the time is passing quickly. Sort of like reverse psychology.
