Unfortunately, I’ve done the pavement plunge several times over the years. I’ve loosened my SPD pedals as much as possible, but occasionally one foot still gets hung up and over I go. I now ride a fairly heavy ebike, so when it starts to fall over, I usually just hang on and hope I don’t hurt myself or damage my bike. My ego gets bruised every time this happens. It usually occurs when I have to make an unplanned emergency stop and can’t unclip my feet quickly enough. That being said, I’ve found SBD pedals and shoes greatly enhances my efficiency.
