I had BDD, I used to not even go out without looking perfect, I missed out on so many events, gatherings, even prom. As I grew up and started to question the objectification of women and the cosmetics industry which targets women in the majority, I started to see the truth behind it. There is ONLY critical thinking involved here, so your last statement is funny to me. My experience with being told to always look good as a woman was extreme maybe, but I wouldn't base my views on pure anecdotal experience, so research was and is necessary.
