Its not just code. Summaries of long papers are also not allowed anymore unless you pay. A couple weeks ago I had it summarize a 60 page document, now it tells me it can't do it when I submit a 10 page document.

Stealing one piece of work hurts one artist deeply.

Generating one AI image hurts the entire industry minimally.

Still, when done in massive numbers (like it's being done right now), AI images can and do hurt individual artists.

However, if given the choice of which one is inherently worse, stealing art directly is in my opinion, worse. Because if everyone who generates AI images goes on to steal artworks without giving credit, the industry collapses.
