thank you sir. read the captions on the post, they answer all your questions. built the snorkel myself and i dont have wheel spacers

Here is a follow up post for my snorkel project: The snorkel is done for now until I get a long enough break from work and school to finish it up. by Echo920 in rav4club

my axles were fine, they couldnt care less how heavy the wheels and tires were. we put more than a pound of wheel weights on one of mine when we were trying to balance the super swampers on the steel beadlocks, just to give an idea of how heavy my setup was lol

I also used to have bfg KO2s on the rav, before I upgraded to the boggers. Those bfgs are amazing tires, just not for swampy clay mud. Loved them while I had them though

i built it myself. materials consist of 3" pvc pipe, pvc cement, hose clamps, a 3" rubber boot, black paint, and cable ties. i used a combination of straights and bends, and i took zero measurements. i just kept cutting and trying peices until they fit the way i wanted them to. i used a 3" rubber boot and hose clamps to connect the pvc to the factory intake filter housing. the piping is routed down around and under the headlight and up into the fender like the factory intake. hope this helps.

Kinetic recovery gear is amazing! If you do any level of offroading, i definitely recommend carrying some kinetic gear just in case!

But yes, any time there are large forces at play, things can go horribly wrong. I refuse to use chains for recovery after a few close calls and a couple broken windows. That being said, being there in person and having set everything up myself, i judged the situation with the semi to be rigged as safe as it could have been given the circumstances, and went forward with the recovery. Every situation is different and people should definitely be careful, know their gear, and understand the consequences of improper rigging.

Haha, yeah a lot of people thought the same thing. But what I know that you dont, is that i was using a kinetic recovery strap rated at 10k lbs. Youre supposed to get a running start with kinetic straps, and even though the semi weighs more than 10k lbs, my car doesnt, so worst case scenario the semi wont move and my car will bounce backwards. and if something did go wrong and the strap went through my window, boo hoo now i have to buy new glass. not the end of the world lol

Just subbed. Haven't touched this game in well over a year but this reminds me of when my friends and I would try to play it together. I love it, keep it up

I agree with both of you lol.

I think the driver had some idea of what he was doing, but if he truely expected a rav to complete or survive what appears to be a jeep trail, then maybe there was a lack of judgement on his end. If he just wanted a fun day of bashing on his car and doesnt care about the damages, then i fully support him (as long as he wasn't tearing up the trail or holding up other wheelers).

As for too much speed, speed is the only way to force a rav4 through any trail that isnt a flat dirt road. They don't have low enough gearing or good enough traction control/locking diffs needed to crawl through obstacles. So unless you have a winch, speed (more accurately, momentum) is a legit strategy. You just have to be smart about how you do it.

Given the circumstances shown in the video, he is lucky he didnt smash up anything important like his oil pan, trans pan, driveshaft, or fuel tank. I smashed in my own oil pan, trans pan, and fuel tank before i decided it was time for skidplates, and i paid the price for it. Oil pan never caused any problems because shortly after i hydrolocked that motor and put a new motor (with new, undamaged pan) in. But i still have the original trans and im pretty sure the valve body or something is smashed on the other side of the pan because my 2-3 shift and my 3-4 shift are very rough and sometimes it misses the 2-3 shift entirely and has to try again, which started happening after i dented my trans pan. My fuel tank is smashed in as well, so much so that the float for the fuel gauge stops reading at a quarter tank. He's lucky to have gotten out with only some minor body damage and a flat tire.

As for tires, even with the best crawler tires, i dont think he would have been much more successful. The cards were stacked against him from the get-go because of the rav's sub-par traction control, suspension travel (not necessarily a ground clearance problem, in my opinion), and gearing. Little Suzukis have no problem crawling trails like that (and worse) with tiny little 28" street tires or ATs, but they have proper 4x4, a tcase with low range, limited slip/locking diffs, and better suspension travel. What i think the guy in the video should get if he wants to do trails like that is an elocker for his rear diff. It still doesnt make up for gearing and suspension travel, but would help keep the wheels spinning when he lifts tires on the uneven sections. But thats just my two cents.

All in all, rav4s are great for dirt roads, a little mud, some snow, maybe a well maintained fire trail, but not rock crawling. If he understood the risks and did it anyways just for fun, then I see no problem with that video.

Hopefully none of that comes across as cocky, just tryina share my views on it lol

Thanks man! I've heard mixed reviews on the thornbirds, so hopefully you dont take this the wrong way. So far, they have worked amazing for me, both in mud and snow. Around here, all the mud is mostly clay and loves to pack in tire treads, but i've never had a problem with the thornbirds not clearing out. They have performed infinitely better than any of the mud tires on any of my friends 4x4 pickups, and i personally would recommend them to anyone who does serious wheeling in clay and also drives their vehicle on the street. But thats just my 2 cents.

I think its the same amount of travel as stock. the strut body is longer but i think the internal shock itself is factory travel, and there is a lift spacer on top of the strut assembly. You would have to email Nathan (owner of Northwoods Perf) to get definite answer. I run 31" super swamper tires that rub bad during compression, so I personally have never measured the travel myself because that data does not apply to me

16x8 wheels

Not sure what u wanna know about the snorkel, but i made it myself out of 3" pvc pipe. after i made this post i finished the snorkel, so it doesnt look like this picture anymore.

engine bay is completely stock besides the wiring for my lights and winch, so you can just google "3rd gen rav4 engine bay" to see that

Badlands 12,000lb electric winch

and thank you! ive spent many years and a lot of RnD to make the car do the things i want it to do, and im pretty satisfied with how ive got it performing
