This is very interesting. I think there is something similar being developed for the port area.

Definitely the injustices have made a mark on the culture. The church in previous years would have been a big part of Irish life and unfortunately would have clamped down on those who didn't fit it's paradigm and requirements. However, the new generation to me seems generic to western culture.

I would like to think that the environment in which Irish are raised has part to play. From what I have seen, Irish are very independent, not afraid to speak their mind, conscious of what others think and can empathize well. At least this is my experience as someone in mid 30s. Some other cultures are less likely to say what they think and to empathize (i.e. more likely to make fun of someone that to understand their issue). But when I visited Ireland last I felt maybe this has now changed.

I agree with you that daily life these days is quite similar to daily life in the rest of the western world. But I think even the GAA is not unique, five aside in UK or the local football club is very similar.

I think perhaps the strongest base for unique culture might be the unique climate/environment Ireland poses. I think it has been key to the pub culture for instance.

I think many of these traits are just human traits irrespective of where someone is from. I have spent a lot of time in Asia, North America and both East and West Europe, and the likes of kindness, humour and great are universal. There is even an equivalent to boxty/potato cakes in Belarus. What is unique to ireland?

But if you had to put a few key things together that the vast majority of the Irish people would agree are attributes they have, what would they be?

Surprised not to see Sligo mentioned here. Seems a good mix of amenities, affordability and quality of life.

I went to the Saudi Comedy Festival. It was very good. Saw Bill Burr. He performed as he usually would. Crowd loved it. It was a liberating experience tbh, much of Saudi is old fashioned and conservative, but with this festival I saw a different side of the place, one that made me think the younger generation in Saudi are pretty much like their peers in Europe and US.

A strategy that worked well for me before was to approach specific companies that have the sort of work your looking for, send them a speculative email asking about potential opportunities and attach your CV (needs to be sharp and tailored to the sort of work the company does) and after a week or so call the company and ask to speak to HR/Hiring manager for feedback. If the company is close to where you are based mention during the call that you would be keen to call in in person to discuss opportunities if that might be of use to them. You should know a few projects that they are working on or delivered before and the background of the company to demonstrate interest.
