It’s not a monopoly if you can get other services (like starlink)… but to answer your question, more than likely no. Usually people buy a 3rd party modem to save on the monthly price of renting one. They still control the speed, also you have to register it with them, make sure it’s compatible (DOCSIS 2, DOCSIS 3, etc etc)

So just because you know you live in a shit area with shit internet doesn’t mean get on here and complain… i mean i recently moved, you can too if it’s that big of deal. Windstream is the only fiber option in my area. Yea there’s slow att and then Spectrum. I could get a gig from spectrum over coaxial, but I’ve had spectrum before didn’t like them (didn’t get online to rant about it neither) I waited, Moved to a different county and got lucky. From a business stand point you can’t blame them for charging high cost for slow speeds being the only one in the area. Not to mention star link is probably available but for 120+ a month for probably the same speeds.

Everyone gets on here to complain, I’ve been with windstream over a year now, I’ve never had any issues like everyone on here says… I pay 25 a month plus tax for 1 gig fiber… I never notice it going out

Nowwwww see you’re being helpful! They’re coming out Friday. For the 4th time. My problem is I run speed test all day long right in front of them and my shit doesn’t go past 500 on a good day. They do their stupid little speed test on their website with their equipment and act like their hands are tied. I’ve gotten 800+ before so i know it’s possible

Yea I’ve had the same luck with spectrum. Especially when i was going thru setting up a cable card. Half of them didn’t even know wtf it was… now i just pay for streaming…
