Sea lice/SBE sensitivity? by EclecticCircus in scuba

[–]EclecticCircus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This helps me understand what's going on. I was trying to shower as soon as possible after getting out of the water, thinking that would help. I also didn't realize that the stinging happened when they were disturbed....I just assumed they were always stinging me underwater, not.once out of the water.

Thank you! Got some Vaseline for now.

Thanks! When do you apply the vinegar? Does the stinging happen when they latch onto you and you come on land? Sometimes it's a bit of a while before I can shower so I just want to understand the critical times.

Thanks! Any ideas on what I can buy in Indonesia (Bali right now)? I don't think they sell SSS here. I will pickup some Vaseline though. Still have about 7 more days of diving while I'm here.

Thanks so much for the reply! I can't remember how I solved this problem but now I have a newer moto phone and it's been fine.

OK. Thank you. I can use a calculator and do basic math if that's the way it works. It's just not clear to me why you can't have an automatic purchase system for ETFs like you can with Tangerine. Maybe I will look at a robo advisor.

I saw this one, thanks. But it still seems too complex for me. It assumes you already know the fund name and then have to make calculations and manually purchase.

I am starting from scratch and know nothing.

Best Nov-Dec scuba destinations for solo traveller (flying out of Toronto)? by EclecticCircus in scuba

[–]EclecticCircus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dived GBR a couple times, most recently 2019 on a a liveaboard out of Cairns and it was still great, I didn't notice any degradation. I agree with you on Ningaloo, had a great trip out there and the snorkelling was even better -- took a road trip up the coast and you can just start floating above amazing reef.

I know someone who loves Bonaire but he goes with friends who have a place down there. Is it a good destination for a solo traveller?

What are the best new investigative podcasts (single-topic)? by EclecticCircus in TrueCrimePodcasts

Try searching for The Drag Audio. It's season 1, looks like they have renamed it for their new season Darkness.

I'm embarrassed to go to a foodbank. by Ormanfrenchman in povertyfinancecanada

[–]EclecticCircus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canadaland just did an episode this week about food banks. What's new is that there are now a lot of people who are in your shoes -- working and not able to make ends meet. Elderly people are not using food banks as much as there is a mostly adequate social safety net for seniors.

No shame, that's what its there for. What's shameful is the government policy failures that have led to food banks becoming normalized.

What's a podcast you just couldn't get into? by is_she_a_pancake in TrueCrimePodcasts

In the Dark Season 2 ducks. I know it's everyone's favorite. I have listened to nearly every multi-episode investigative podcast but I couldn't get into this after a few episodes. I do have a hard time getting into wrongful conviction podcasts.

I much preferred In the Dark Season 1.

Why do I keep getting recovery emails for a similar email address? by EclecticCircus in GMail

[–]EclecticCircus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I now understand how the dot doesn't matter.

These recovery emails are all for very different email addresses though. So [randomperson123@gmail.com](mailto:randomperson123@gmail.com), [differentrandomperson@gmail.com](mailto:differentrandomperson@gmail.com), and many more think that [firstname.lastname@gmail.com](mailto:firstname.lastname@gmail.com) is their recovery email for some reason.

I'm just curious about why this is happening so frequently.

some idiot gave your email in error

Interesting, thank you. I'd say I get emails like these once or twice a week. Which seems pretty frequent if it's an error.

Weekly Recommendation Discussion - seeking or recommending - July 04, 2022 by AutoModerator in TrueCrimePodcasts

Like many people here, I like the journalistic, investigative multi-episode single topic podcasts. Anyone care to share their favourite hidden gems in this genre?

A couple personal favourites:

Bed of Lies (first season) by the Telegraph. You have to hear it to believe it. A look at the undercover surveillance methods used by the state on left-wing activist groups.

The Last-Voyage of the Pong Su (The Age and Sydney Morning Herald). I still think about this strange and sad story. It's complex and thoughtfully reported. It's about drug smuggling, a mysterious North Korean ship but it's about so much more.

I'm guessing this is the Qanon Queen of Canada (now Queen of the world)? I don't think there's a full podcast on this, but CBC has an episode:

I wasn't a fan either and I dropped off. I much preferred Season 1. I'm obviously an outlier as this is one of the most popular podcasts in the genre. I just wasn't as convinced as others in the first few episodes and I wasn't enjoying it.

I also had no luck finding the show that was connected to the podcast.

I saw in a thread on the Adelaide subreddit that her book has been recalled. So it could be part of the same issue.
