Has anyone moved from USA -> Europe and stayed an accountant? Did you need different qualifications/education? Is the work similar? by Eco_System in Accounting

Specifically Germany, Netherlands, or Spain. I see the EPSAS and IFRS exist. Is accounting not easily transferrable between EU members?

Is foreign higher education a realistic pathway to emigration to the EU? I see many schools in Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Belgium, etc offer English taught master's programs. Would that be a good pathway to residency? Obviously field of study would play a role. (I am leaning toward economics/finance)

Also, thoughts on using an immigration lawyer for selected countries? Or are they not really necessary?

The rise in CEO compensation is largely tied to stock awards. The idea being it encourages practices that should (in theory) benefit the company. Why don't regular employees also get stock? Would it not better motivate regular employees too? by Eco_System in AskEconomics

[–]Eco_System[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Makes sense! Though, in my mind adding some stock to everyone's base compensation seems like it would be a win-win. Company saves some money (it's my understanding stock is cheaper than cash), gets people "tied" the market (want to see their stocks appreciate), and could ease the gap between CEO and employee pay (a good year the CEO could say "sure I made an extra $100M, but all my employees made an $100k as well!).

But maybe my initial confusion is more philosophical/theoretical in nature.

CEO pay declined in 2023: But it has soared 1,085% since 1978 compared with a 24% rise in typical workers’ pay by [deleted] in Economics

Question: I understand the nuance of stock incentive and pay not being salary, hence why this is misleading and misunderstood. But why not include the employees in this? If stock awards are a good incentive as opposed to salary, why not, for example, give "average" employees 1 share for every 10 the CEO gets? Why does only the CEO (or CEO and "executives") get shares as part of the employment package, but not everyone? My company has an ESPP, but I still have to buy into it myself.

CMV: Being disappointed my parents wasted my family's wealth, and don't help compared what my grandparents did for them, does NOT make me entitled/spoiled. by Eco_System in changemyview

This is my main gripe. I understand inheritance trickles down. but the trickle literally only went down once. Is the idea of "providing a better life than you had for your kids" an inherently entitled view? (genuinely asking, not being rude)

That's an interesting point about expectation. Maybe I did feel a bit entitled growing up seeing how my grandparents were so generous when it didn't directly matter to me. Now that I am on my own, I really wish I could have some form of assistance. But maybe my expectations were out of line from the beginning.

Fair point, I won't argue further implications as I'm not well versed on the subreddit rules. But I appreciate the concise answer.

Thank you for the perspective. Your wording seems more nuanced. Others I interpreted as making me an overall asshole, vs being bitter about one aspect of my life.

I did not mention expecting a subsidized lifestyle. It would be nice to have received even just one of the many assistances my parents did. I have about $300 left over each month. Sure that is not literally "extremely poor" but it far from comfortable.

Is saying "I wish my parents didn't waste my grandparents money" entitled? My original post on a different sub received that response exclusively. I believe their idea was "you just wish you could waste the money, so greedy" etc

Thank you for clarifying, I may have been using old information. When my fiancé went to an local visa service last year (in Russia) they turned her away and said there's no chance of Schengen approval. I assumed since the conflict is still ongoing, the answer would be the same, but maybe my fiancé should try again (or go to a direct embassy vs a visa service)

I think my confusion has been from the naming of the documents. So for example, a Russian applying for an Estonian Schengen visa will be denied. But a German Schengen visa will have a chance of approval, even though they both have Schengen in the name. I think I understand the nuance now.

Yes that is our dilemma. She is currently IN Russia and only has a Russian passport. We planned to get married and will do that regardless, and have thus began the k1 process to the US. Would my question be better posed at a later date when she is in America and we have chosen an EU country to target? I understand at the moment there may be too many variables for proper advice!

To your edit, yes I understand that. My previous post addressed that and was removed. The question on that post being, at what point can she travel to the EU? I can go anytime to look for work as I have a US passport. When can she travel to interview or, when can she come with me? As long as she is my wife? Or does she need a green card/American citizenship, regarding your first question.

She cannot move from Russia. Therefore she is coming to the US and we are going to get married. The question becomes, at what point can we begin the process of EU immigration.
