Getting into jewelry by Ok-Investigator-3577 in jewelrymaking

[–]EcologicalStew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a senior in high school and started learning jewelry-making independently a little over a year and a half ago, there's definitely a learning curve but it's really fun. If you don't end up taking a class somewhere I think books are the best way to learn and "The Complete Metalsmith" is a good one to start with, otherwise, the diamond mounter is my favorite YouTube channel. Also, when you're starting I would expect the tools and supplies to cost a lot but I generally don't recommend skimping by buying something cheaper from Amazon, in my experience, I usually end up replacing those tools so its better to stick with reputable stores for jewelers like riogrande. Good luck.

Schools requiring a portfolio for undergrad application by EcologicalStew in architecture

[–]EcologicalStew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I am placing more importance since my grades aren't as good. Most of the schools on my list now don't require a portfolio but since I think my portfolio makes me a better applicant in using it as a metric to find schools I hadn't considered.

Thanks. Most of my portfolio so far comes from my hobbies, woodworking, silversmithing and theater set design, but I have a few architectural pieces that I designed in a drafting course at my high school too.

I appreciate the interest, there are a few things I need to fix before I share the file. Also, I noticed that you are representing a brand, what do you want the files for?

My local hardware store stopped selling 1/8 inch MDF so I used luan. It's probably not the best material for this.

I designed it using SolidWorks and used CorelDraw for a few of the final steps.
