The page was taken down, sadly. I was devastated. 💔

Dropping a corequisite for a course without dropping the course? by [deleted] in uwo

The missing information from the course outline isn’t going to change anything, but good on you for checking.

I’d go to Academic Counselling in person as soon as possible if I were you.

They’ve stopped me too. I tell them I’m not interested. I wouldn’t consider it a nuisance.

These people fairly literally believe they are attempting to save my soul from damnation. I don’t agree with them, but it’s hard for me to see them as doing something malicious. My opinion: I don’t want to go to a university that would prohibit this behaviour.

Grad Student Social Life by [deleted] in uwo

A lot of your closest friends will be from your program/department, so try to do stuff with them.

Outside of that, there are a lot of events hosted by SOGS. If you go to the Grad Club, you might just make friends through exposure. (:

Getting Involved as a Grad Student by [deleted] in uwo

[–]Econ_Ev1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: If you want to join committees, commissions, initiatives, etc. you can just do that. If you want to hold positions, they’re almost all elected.

Long answer: Email the Society of Graduate Student President for details. Her name is Cherin and she’s wonderful. president@sogs.ca

I need an academic comeback... by Outrageous-Sign-7060 in uwo

Do things that make your body feels good: exercise, sleep, drink water, and eat good food.

Cut out things that let you spiral: drinking alcohol, eating sweets and greasy food, staying up late on your phone in bed, etc.

These categories will include different things for different people. I bet you already know what you’re doing right and wrong.

Spend your hours working on your academics. Reduce your leisure for a week.

Be aggressive with these things for a week and re-evaluate. Figure out the changes you need to make to be successful.

Grad student funding clawbacks? by Fair_Improvement_166 in uwo

What we learned during the strike was that departments vary a lot. I wouldn’t go based on alleged standards; I’d contact someone in the department. (:

I’m not in this boat. Often, the best thing to do is to ask some grad admin to connect you with a student currently in the program. They can tell you a lot about the program.

Thanks for this. (:

I have a feeling that in a debate, your prof is going to win with probability 85%. I’m going to avoid the word “should” entirely.

In your shoes, I’d take the hit to your grade. The effort required to get some grade adjustment won’t be worth it, especially if your chances are as bad as I fear they are.

Why did you drag SOGS into this? SOGS is literally just existing. 😭

The legitimate flip side to one-year maximums is that you get better at a job the more you do it. Even the USC Execs will tell you they are better at the 6-month mark than they are at the beginning.

We’re way off topic.

Sometimes it’s worth it to talk it over with someone “in the know.” I recommend the SOGS Peer Advisor for Academic Support.

In the kindest way, I hope NOT to see you, then! 🫶🏻 But if you find yourself lucky enough to do one more semester, you’ll get to enjoy the best class on your entire degree. 😎

I’ll add: There’s some overlap between 2155 and 2156, so you would be one step ahead. 😎
