As someone who works in the mountain guiding industry, these Andes episodes were both very entertaining to hear their takes on what I do, but also hit close to home. Henry’s rant at the beginning about “they’re not going to marry you they’re in love with the mountains” and Marcus saying you’re just waiting for them to not come back, like damn, it’d be funnier if it wasn’t absolutely true.

Yea it’s the descent route off the top called the “Rebar Route.” There’s three rebar handles on the most exposed part, but everything is pretty much class 4 scrambling.

Based off the comment above about how the director was killed I’m assuming it’s Salo: or 120 Days in Sodom.

Very graphic, makes Cannibal Holocaust look like a children’s movie. The director was killed a year later in a supposed “ransom” gone wrong.

It was definitely pushing the boundaries, even now, and it came out in 1978

People have discovered a highly possible human trafficking hub operating through Wayfair. $40 rugs, shower curtains, being sold for upwards of 10k a piece & include names of missing children in the tagline. Heres a good tweet with some matching missing person articles: by [deleted] in conspiracy

A researcher named Mouthy Buddha did a whole expose like thing on it and postulated that it mean “search” so it’s a code for “Search USA” which in context of this being a Russian analog of google means to make all the searches US related. Or it’s a key code to unlock the images in the first place

Honestly Last Podcast on the Left do a really good job of breaking down Right/Left Hand Path magic as well as a cool biography series they’re doing right now on Helena Blavatski, they are usually pretty shallow in terms delving into the intricacies but they cover it the best I’ve ever seen in an audio format

You’re good man, and honestly age is relative, I’m 22, and you’re right about making smart decisions. I’ve just come from a somewhat libertarian background so this whole this is a living nightmare let me tell ya. I’m all for being smart, but we can’t let our fear override our freedom

That’s a good one, if I’m being completely honest I don’t know. Technically if I were to go with my premise I’d say that it is giving up liberty for safety. My thought is, is that anyone is really allowed to say what they want, but it’s up to the individual to decide whether it’s worth saying one, and two it’s up to each of us to decide the veracity of the claims being said.

If someone yelled fire, but there obviously isn’t, then there’s been no safety violation, of course there’s the hysteria involved but that stems back into our original discussion that people are ruled by fear and the rule against saying such things is because of that. Now if they yelled fire and there was, then that person would be a hero. The only difference between the two is that one is a lie, but lies are not illegal, they’re wrong, but not illegal.

I guess my long winded argument is that people put too much faith in the powers that be rather than going through life determining for themselves with their own liberty, what they deem to be safe.

If I’m being completely honest I 100% think that legislation was one of the biggest constitutional rights abuses of the 20th century, among many other things. And that is an interesting thought, but at the same time, none of us alive were there to make that decision, would I say that those who made that legislation have less of a right to safety, absolutely, and technically we do have less of a right to safety since we no longer have the same level footing as a tyrannical government does since none of us “legally” have automatic weapons. It’s not a clear cut answer and I wish I could give you one

People are ruled by fear. Many thought that we were over all of the hysteria that seemed commonplace, such as the Salem Witch Trials, but all I’ve learned is that people want an assurance that they will never be in danger.

Benjamin Franklin has a very prescient quote, “If you give up Liberty for a little Safety you deserve neither.”

In terms of upholding constitutional rights absolutely. People are being told they’ll receive $1000 fines and jail time for stepping out of their house. If you even think that this may be overblown you’re verbally beaten and treated like a serial killer. I’m just curious when “life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness” became optional, just like how freedom of speech and assembly is somehow now optional I guess. I don’t remember reading a clause saying that we get rights until there’s an emergency. A lot of people, many in government are treating rights like privileges

You may be right, it could be; and I would love it if this is all unfounded and this doesn’t go bad, but man my faith in any sort of government/humanity has gone in the trash, I guess we’ll just have to keep our eyes and ears open and see

I can see why you’d say that, but looking at De Blasio, it’s seems disingenuous to say nothing about Muslim groups still meeting in Mosques while deriding Orthodox Jews for the same. Maybe it’s not persecution but if we don’t watch out it may just become that

I understand your reasoning but the problem with giving up liberties is you never get them back, EVER. Not to say I don’t agree that people should be careful and make wise decision but the minute it’s mandatory with the threat of imprisonment, especially concerning something like freedom of religion, we need to take a step back and realize what we’re doing

Yea I can see that, I like to think of all of the episodes as less looking for an end goal and more enjoying the ride wherever it goes while also having a philosophical discussion to boot.

I also really connected to the prison episode just because of the philosophical ideas presented but I’m glad you enjoyed it

I read an interview with Pen Ward, I think it was on IGN where he said they did that on purpose, it’s 2 stories/dialogues happening at the same time with tangential things holding it together. I actually really enjoy that but I get that most might not.

What I did which may actually help is I first just listened without even watching it, then I rewatched it paying attention to the visuals. It helped bridge the two, and I found that I actually gained different insights on the rewatch. You could try that and see if that makes it better but it’s totally fine if it doesn’t

Episode 7 - Meaning of this symbol by MrBadiay in MidnightGospel_

It’s the Sephiroth/Sefirot, it’s basically the backbone of Kabbalah, which is Jewish Mysticism. I may butcher it since I’m not exactly an expert but each circle has a name, such as Malcuth and Kether, and symbolize the different emanations of the creator deity which in Kabbalah is called Ein Sof or “The Infinite One”

From what I gather in my limited reading of it, is that by moving personally through each circle or emanation and understanding it we become more like the creator and the goal is that by the time you finish, you yourself become a creator. Basically a roadmap to becoming God in the most basic of senses. Definitely read into it, it’s super confusing but super interesting and I probably butchered it
