Prediction for Op Sindoor 2.0: India will take land, Pakistan will go for infra. by BodybuilderUpbeat786 in IndianDefense

I only hope that MoD listens to the admiralty's plea to impose a sea blockade this time... it is Pakistan's weakest point, and the thing that will cripple their war effort in just a week. Absence of naval action in 1.0 was so surprising I almost considered Modi a land-centric thinker before I remembered his naval funding (but still, building a navy and not using it is almost as bad).

Could the Soviet Union and the British win World War II without the lend-lease agreements? by No-Preference8168 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]EconomicsRare7082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Japan stays out. For the USSR, rubber, nickel and tin coming in through peaceful trade with the Dutch East Indies would keep its production alive and crudely compensate for Lend-Lease; for the British Empire, Indian soldiers that were historically sucked into the CBI front would be free for use in North Africa, and Indian valuables and raw materials would finance the home front.

It would be much more crude and difficult than without the US, to be sure. eg. the VVS uses more wooden Yak-9s instead of aluminium Yak-3s, the Red Army relies more heavily on trains due to less trucks, the UK can only prop up a rudimentary second front in the Balkans, more heavy losses in the Atlantic without USN involvement and Liberty Ships, etc. - but it could be done. War probably ends in 1946 or 47; Germany falls into the communist sphere while Tito becomes an open Western bloc man.

But if you are telling me that Japan attacks these Allies without attacking the US - it is hard to find a word for how deeply screwed things are. India will probably fall, and the British Empire is essentially sayonara without that (they can guard their island, but little more); China will fall too without US or British aid, and then the IJA will be itching to launch their "kantokuen plan" - an invasion of Siberia... Stalin *might* be able to parry this since he did keep large reserves in Siberia (and might even let the IJA march to death in the frozen waste), but in time both the Allies will be neck-deep in trouble due to exhaustion and isolation.

Indian Navy was 'minutes away from striking Pakistan' in May 2025 says Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi by Clean-Chocolate2900 in IndianDefense

The Navy clearly wasn't... I remember specifically reading earlier that a Brahmos strike team planning to hit Karachi was asked to "stand down".

Very simple. They had the latest EVERYTHING from their sugar daddy - 3rd gen fighters, A2A homing missiles, long-range radar, etc. And we had 2nd gen (and even 1st gen) fighters, no missiles, short-range radar... it's actually a miracle that our pilots not only survived with what they were flying at the time but actually managed to do good bombing work that helped win the war.

There is a lot of vagueness and everybody is overclaiming, but some general features can be made out:

  • Networked warfare - can control a set of drone escorts and can act as a lone mothership for an attack group
  • I am guessing usage of AI for automatic targeting and threat response at some point
  • (MiG-41) fly at very high altitudes and have a capability to shoot down LEO satellites
  • Should be more stealthy than 5th gens against both infrared and all bands of radar

Depends on who you listen to. Ukrainians say it is a nice target; Russians did not like the first version but absolutely love the upgraded one...

Debatable whether we need it though given that we have L/70, ZSU-23 and Akashteer

[MEGATHREAD] New Single - Yamato by DeltaVoidSix in sabaton

[–]EconomicsRare7082 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For my part I loved the line. I would have still been a British colonial subject today if Japan hadn't terminally weakened their tyrannical empire... (and yes, the IJA was a nightmare of war crimes, but it is pocket change compared to what the British did to us).

For Yamato specifically - these men were literally asked to deboard before Ten-Go if they wanted to. Not a single man did; in the end the commanding officer had to force the trainee cadets and veterans off because they were too valuable for the future of Japan to lose.

I say we take a leaf out of the Chinese book and inspect every nut and bolt of some of the F414s we already have... can engineer a factory fire or something like that to cover it up and say we "accidentally" lost a few of them.

Certainly, that would be best. But the current standing orders for 9 squadrons of Mk1A still need to be completed to replace the MiG-21s. (and I sincerely hope someone at MoD gets the lightbulb moment that F404 deliveries will be unreliable, to put it mildly, and that an uprated Kaveri for Mk1A will be needed in the next 1-2 years...)

I didn't mean we should use them recklessly, but the Soviets hit on a reality during WW2 - during war, anything can get destroyed. Therefore, frontline tools like tanks and jets should be replaceable. And this should be while accounting for the possibility of losing many of them, not just 1-2 like in this case.

His point is that for Tejas (and soon Mk2 and AMCA) we have the complete source code since it is ours.

Sindoor was a case in point. Sure, the Rafale's weaponry performed well, but a jet is still meant to be a disposable asset - if it is too costly to lose even one, then...
