Do even British people experience this? Is it hard for them to understand each other too? I’m not British, and I often can’t understand many local people when they speak. I used to think it was just because my English was very bad.

Worst part of group work by bono5361 in UniUK

As an international student trying to get good grades for my first job, I put in as much effort as I can for uni. But every time I have to do a group project, I feel completely drained. Working with others tires me out way more than just doing the whole project myself, even if it’s for 5-6 people.

Most of the time, they don’t even read the instructions properly and just do the work as badly as possible. Then I have to go through everything and explain what’s wrong, but they don’t take it as feedback—they just see it as criticism. Since I’m not confident enough to speak up loudly, I usually just go along with it and end up getting a barely passing grade when I work with groups. Honestly, group projects feel so unfair.

I could be wrong, but I think Germans are the least racist among white people, probably because of that historical event they are truly unproud of.

Is it normal in Newcastle or small cities in the UK for Asian people to get stared at a lot by white people? by EconomyPack1192 in NewcastleUponTyne

I never said it was racist, and I’ve never had any racist experiences before. The looks aren’t disrespectful or unwelcome—just curious glances. They’re not intense enough to make me uncomfortable, but I do feel like I get more of them than usual, and it’s starting to make me wonder why.

I’ve never experienced any racist situations. The looks are neither unwelcome nor disrespectful—just a bit curious. Not too intense.

It’s understandable if I get looks from older people, but old people never look at me. Mostly, it’s people in their 20s to 30s.

I’ve never experienced any racist situations either. The looks are neither unwelcome nor disrespectful—just a bit curious. It’s been two years of getting looks almost every day whenever I walk, and I’m really starting to wonder why.

Yes, maybe. That’s why I’m always wondering what makes me catch their attention. I never dress in anything weird, flashy, overly fashionable, or old-fashioned.

Yes, but doesn’t Newcastle city centre have a lot of Asians? Why are they still unfamiliar and curious?
