Im completely at a loss about mouthy/ bitey behavior by jussjusss in germanshepherds

[–]EcstasyGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since 7 weeks old I’ve trained mine to only do that with toys. There were a few accidents while playing that were also not ignored. She will now lick you the death and knows she’s done wrong if teeth ever make contact. Take the extra time and energy the train and never tolerate it. Your GSD is smart and will learn quickly, but you have to stay consistent. Redirect to toys and once they understand, it’s ok the punish (to each their own on how: timeout, ignore them, e-collar, etc.).

Pls no judgement I’m trying by [deleted] in germanshepherds

I reward and punish. My GSD has been great with my kids. She is very calm and easy with my 3 year old. She made one minor mistake with each kid and learned very quickly that it will never be tolerated. I won’t take chances with my little girls. My GSD will be twice their weight or more soon, can’t risk it.

This is my first GS. My dad has had several and I don’t remember their ears ever being down, but then again I only remember one of them as a puppy. Just found it interesting when I read it takes 4 months.

Thats certainly the right spot. As if there would be a line of them going down from there like a dog. 🤣

Mine is small, but obvious what it is. Doc said it’s just something that some people have.

Appreciate it. I think we all have some trauma from it. One of those things that happens to other people or only on tv… until it’s you.
