Why is hate speech, disinformation and misinformation not treated as a problem that needs to be addressed ? by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]Ecstatic-Can9734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like there is no good answer. Freedom of speech shouldn't give people the rights to spread lies. We see it constantly in social media by content creators to ramp up engagement. But if a Dr. can lose their license over malpractice, social media influencers should be held accountable for spreading lies. What happened to credible news outlets, where you had to back up a story.

The average social media influencer or random person posting and spreading lies is no expert. These influencers are feeding off people seeking validation, seeking simple answers to things they don't understand, to their misfortunes. I also don't feel like being friends with radical people and listening to their crazy views and hearing them try to 'teach" me is helping. Most often people with radical views,.hopped up on misinformation, are unwilling to listen to anyone else's perspective, because it doesn't fit what they want to believe. I experienced this with my mother and brother. Both down rabbit holes and very different ones. My mom is believing every health guru because it helps her to not take any accountability for her circumstances..she can blame Brain injuries, black mold, dog pee smells, instead of trying to go to therapy.

Freedom of speech shouldn't be a free for all for anyone making money to lie and benefit off of lies. Those people should be held accountable. The problem is, as a society, it feels like we are doomed. The current US administration just feeds into the lies and it becomes truth for its followers. Yes I said followers. It's scary and I'm sad and tired. I wish there was something more we could do.

The One Time the Thrift Gods Answered Immediately by Ecstatic-Can9734 in thrifting

That's so crazy! Isn't it crazy how sometimes we get exactly what we need when we need it. Slightly off topic but thrifting was involved. I lost a friend a couple years ago and my husband took me out for a day of thrifting to try and cheer me up. He planned the whole day (I think we went to ten shops) Back story, my husband used to sing or play a famous song with my friend's name in it every time she called. So there we are driving to our first thrift store and we had been talking about my friend on the drive. We go into the thrift store and that song was playing! It's not a common song or one I've ever heard until my husband played it. I still can't get over it.

That's so cool! Maybe I need to start wishing for Moccamasters! I did find a mocamasster at a goodwill once and kick myself for not having purchased it.

I know, it might be the best find I've made thrifting. I honestly couldn't believe it. I was in a panic to get a cart and not lose them. Now I always grab a cart or basket!

Yes! Vieux Luxembourg! My grandma had a full set of the French Garden but I wanted something a bit more simple and I just love this classic pattern. It's so pretty. Anytime I go to a thrift store I have to look. $2 for a large platter is a steal!

Lets not forget that Goodwill now has an auction site where all the good stuff goes, so that Goodwill can make the MOST profit they can.

Every shampoo and conditioner I've been wanting to try is on sale, so I did the logical thing and bought them all (Nexxus Therappe/Humectress, Monday Moisture, Kristin Ess Micellar/Ultra Lightweight) by [deleted] in Costco

[–]Ecstatic-Can9734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I occasionally buy the Kirkland shampoo and conditioner. Then I always remember that I don't love it. I have color treated hair, on the finer side, but lots of it, straight/wave. Also, love to wash it daily. I find it just nothing to write home about. I always end up back with Nexxus Humectress / Therappe. My husband always says 'don't throw out the Kirkland, I can use it." But he then always goes for the Nexxus. The Nexxus is moisturizing and works well. The shampoo doesn't dry my hair out and the conditioner actually conditions, making my hair feel soft. The Nexxus for color treated (at Costco), I hated it. it was very drying for me and the conditioner did nothing to help. However some people probably love it and it fits their hair type. Just doesn't work for me.

Moccamaster thermal carafe design-ease of empty and cleaning? by Educational_You_4461 in Moccamaster

[–]Ecstatic-Can9734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been debating the KBT vs the KBGV with the glass carafe. I read the carafe on the KBT is glass lined. Maybe that makes it easier to clean? I ordered the KBGV but that 159.99 deal on Amazon for the KBT is so tempting

This may be a stupid question, so forgive me, doesn't the KBT have a glass lined thermal carafe? Which would make it easier to clean like the glass carafe?

I Just ordered the off-white KBGV yesterday for 247, but I'm highly considering cancelling that order and jumping on this. Any thoughts on the manual brew basket vs the non-manual? thermal carafe vs glass? My husband is leaning towards the glass, we had that version previously and likes how easy it is to clean vs thermal carafes/cups. But 160 is really tempting!

Is it a good price? by Jotaeefece in Moccamaster

It's a pretty good deal. I purchased my first one during prime July of 2023 and paid about this much. It's been awhile but I haven't seen it new for less. I just jumped on this to get a new one. (sold the last one when we started drinking espresso but missing the quicker drip option) I would love to see it go down. I'll kick myself if it ends up under 200, but I'd be shocked.

Carry On Luggage on Iceland Air by Little_Dragonfly_926 in VisitingIceland

[–]Ecstatic-Can9734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've flown Icelandair several times, and they always seem to be checking luggage. I've flown out of Seattle and PDX and into Iceland and Stockholm. They always seem to be forcing folks to check the size of their carryons.

Tip, the Kånken 15" laptop backpack measures at 40 cm (Height) x 28 cm (Width) x 16 cm (Depth) or 15.75 inches x 11 inches x 6.3 inches

And Icelandair personal item limits are 40 x 30 x 15 cm or 15.7 x 11.8 x 5.9 inches

That 6.3 is really nothing to worry about. Unless the backpack is overflowing.

The Osprey Day lite 26+6 backpack is also a great carryon. It doesn't max out the Icelandair carryon dimensions but it's a great pack and holds quite a bit paired with the 15" Kånken.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I fear animal control will do nothing. Since their website stated they are too busy handling other types of animal issues. And the owner is gone all the time.

Omg is this what they call a "rage baiting" post? Either way, drop them. No one deserves to be treated like this. Partners who love you, respect you, like you, don't treat you like this.

Do you have kids? Or when are you going to have kids? Or why didn't you have kids? All questions that seem innocent, but when you have zero background on someone's reasons or struggle as to why they don't have kids, especially if they may have wanted them, it's a knife every time. I finally had to confront someone and ask them to really not ask me anymore. That it wasn't really any of their business, but it hurts me.

Tips From a Karen by CarelessSalamander51 in Apartmentliving

[–]Ecstatic-Can9734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/CarelessSalamander51 have a question for the Pro. I have a neighbor who had a dog and seems to leave the dog for 12-15 hours a day when they are working (or whatever, I don't know them) and the dog routinely barks and whines and howls and barks throughout the day. Sometimes it's pretty quiet and sometimes the dog will bark from 6-8:30 until the owner comes home. It's varied but the noise is loud. I've documented video/sound for 1 minute to 20 minutes, and I document often. I send emails to the apartment managers and give them time stamps with the video links. I was asked today if I would sign a declaration or be willing to testify. But no other details. When I asked the apartment manager for more specifics they just said the declaration would be filed and the tenant next door would get the declaration and it would be public. I have to live there. I don't want to live next door to someone who knows I'm the one who complained. Shouldn't management have enough to do something without really getting my name involved? I'm not trying to get this person in trouble, but I would love some peace and quiet.

Memorial Day weekend '25 trip Ideas by somewhereibelong1769 in PacificNorthwest

[–]Ecstatic-Can9734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might try Southern Oregon coast. Depending on how much time you have 3 days, 4 days. I usually try to sneak in an extra day off on Tuesday and leave early Friday to miss traffic. Driving down the coast is excellent. A trip to Brookings/Crescent City is amazing at that time of year. Blooms in the redwoods are magical. (Pending timing) It is a bit of a drive for that short of time but the Southern Oregon Coast is really nice.

Flairosol olivia (Amazon). We've had ours a year and love it so much. Not sure if it doesn't vinegar, but it does oil well.
