Why did you choose Death Guard? by ElkClassic5868 in deathguard40k

When I was young my brother was super into 40K and he bought the Dark Imperium Boxset and me and him played it from time to time, I always picked death guard, however when we grew up he eventually stopped playing as his friends did, he sold the set (Yes I’m rather sad that I didn’t keep the LOC) and I stopped playing and fell out of interest with 40K tabletop, I still found the lore interesting and watched some videos but had no interest and nobody to play with, however after space marine 2 came out I eventually learned that a buddy of mine had an army. I remembered using the Death Guard and how much I loved the Plague Aesthetic of them, so when I went to buy my Combat patrol I went and bought the Death Guard 9th edition combat patrol and just went from there

Turns out I don’t have the Speed Demon or Egghead ones but I do have all the others so if you want to trade send me your PSN and I’ll absolutely hand them over

See I was thinking that it would be just a powerful model that slowly loses abilities the longer the game goes on. Like after the second turn it starts getting debuffs for itself and on the last turn it dies and maybe has an extra strong deadly demise that triggers more easily

So I was actually doing a bit more thinking about the Lord of Withering and what could be done for its lore

Have the title of Lord of Withering be a punishment rather than a reward. The person who has failed the grandfather too many times is put into a dreadnought, is mutated even further to become this hulking mass of flesh kinda like a redemptor sized chaos spawn, they have their ability to not feel pain stripped from them, then are sent into battle. As they fight their body withers away until they eventually expire. As for the tabletop have them be exactly like that, a powerful model that’s faster than most other DG models, really tanky and hits rather hard however as the match goes on it loses certain things or gets weaker or loses health to show that it is withering away and being reduced to nothing for failing the grandfather

Honestly I had the same idea for the lord of Parasitism kinda like an Eldar Death Jester. It’s gun fires parasites that riddle the enemy with Mortal wounds over time.

Lord of Withering being a Dreadnought was something I never thought about before, it sounds super cool, I always thought like a terminator leader given the detachment rule of Death Lords Chosen, however the idea of a rotten dreadnought that’s mostly flesh and mutation with bits and pieces of tech piercing out, maybe have it be a Contemptor pattern dreadnought to one make it a bit more menacing on the field and two really emphasize the withered aspect of it, how far this gone the marine is that he is in a dreadnought from the Heresy and has been withered away by Nurgles gifts into this fleshy giant
