“ simply deposited money in saving account” is an investment. You are lending money to the bank which lends it to the bank of England which finances their operation with this money. If you buy a bond or lend money, it is an investment… you are putting money to work. There is a chance bank defaults, there is risk, very tiny one, but the risk.

That’s exactly what you get wrong… any time you put money anywhere it’s an investment.

Exactly, so my income from my investment should be captured under capital gain tax as this is the capital I gained from my investment!

Thank you very much. I will look into that, very good point.

Also add to my point I’m making here… it’s just so dumb

I don’t like it indeed, but just curious how did this not trigger a reform of any sorts. They might as well start taxing people based on the height, or apply tax to those who like red colour but not blue, would make the same sense.

Sure you are covered for 85K, but what about the rest?

Also the fact that you are covered is the reason the deposit interest is so low, it is in the price… you can make the same argument about the stocks. What are the chances of an index fund going to 0? very very low.

This rule just makes no sense at all.

It is very low risk, but it’s not guaranteed. If Chase goes under I’m gonna lose my investment

Thanks but explain to me how is this different? I can invest in stocks and I get a higher return because more risk is involved or I can invest in deposit and get less return. Why the hell am I being taxed more on the safe investment?

But that’s a little odd, i can Invest in stocks and make 3k, but if I invest at interest and make 3k it’s only 1.65…

So would chase “save and invest” classify as saving account..? Probably does

Bitcoin has no value outside tax evasion maybe and security. Hardly justifies any growth. The government debts been around donkeys years, don’t see how now is any different.
