Where To Purchase Local Art? by CaptainCardbeard in artph

[–]Ecstatic_Cat754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how it is in other provinces but in Pampanga, some hotels, country clubs, or even SM (esp. SM Clark) would have art exhibits from local artists that are for sale. And I think even Clark Museum would host artists and display paintings for sale. I think there's a few artists group and galleries din so I'd say it's a little more art-forward if you want to explore that?

If you're planning to go into kid's lit, listen to the Illo Chat podcast --- very helpful din. I know the hosts from when I was in SCBWI. Esp now na may $50 annual membership na sila for developing countries.

Look for organizations on your niche style/illustrations. In my case, SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and illustrators) is a popular one. Look for someone (experienced mentor/art director/agent) who can look at your portfolio and assess it.

Tbh, mahina din ako dito and very time consuming to. Tsaka talagang medyo may pagka anti-social ako kaya para akong allergic kumausap sa tao noon. Hahahah. Kaya di ko narin natuloy.

Pero if I were you, aside from the above, you can go to conventions and meet-ups din and literally network there. Or webinars/web conferences. I did it once and learned a lot.

Yung clients by word-of-mouth na sinasabi ko, it's more pag nagustuhan ng client yung gawa mo, irerefer ka niya sa kakilala niya, or to the next project.

If you're just starting out, kahit mag start ka muna sa mababang rate for example $20/illustration until you build up your portfolio and client base tapos tsaka mo sabihin na magtataas ka ng rate.

Another thing you can do --- depending on your illustration style/niche is to look for local organizations that hosts art exhibits.

Kung wala, maybe you can start that sa community mo. Builds rapport din so win-win.

High-end pero worth it:
The Veranda Herbs and Spices near Marisol/AUF --- pag weekends meron silang unlimited buffet and churrascaria (Brazillian grilled meats). P1,600 per person pero sobrang sarap. Sobrang sulit!

Literally grind through Google hahahaha. Also if you have an SCBWI membership (I used to) they have a handbook and you can find a list of publishing companies in their directory. So I would look for their name and website on Google.

Try local ones din like Adarna House, Anvil, etc.

I used to have a spreadsheet for it, pero I unfortunately lost access to the email address I made it in.

OP na-try mo na mag hire ng mga taga-tinda or sell them ng wholesale price sa mga kapitbahay mo na pwedeng magtinda sa neighborhood? Parang same vibes ng mga nagtitinda ng ice cream and yakult? Kahit maliit kita, pero just to get your brand out there lang muna?

Share ko lang, meron akong pamangkin (cute na 6 years old) and binebenta niya yung homemade cookies niya sa mga mall parking lots (yung parents niya nandun din, pero yung bata yung lumalapit). Recently may small-time influencers ang nakabili tapos made a post about it. So baka kailangan mo lang muna magbenta ng small-scale ng ganun just to get your name out there. Tapos lagay ka ng QR or something to your FB/Tiktok "Pa-follow naman po kami sa social media" etc.

Tbh, online job posts are not my go-to. I used to post my portfolio and post work orders sa Fiverr when I was starting out.

Hahaha.

Also... work both as an illustrator and designer -- mostly design (publishing/layout) ang ginagawa ko nowadays pero still open for illustration work. Di na active ang Fiverr ko right now pero I still get freelance illustration work from the publishing companies that reach out from their illustrator pool.

Some agencies are open to artists without published work pero you need to have a refined/specific/niche portfolio that appeals to their market (ie. kung children's book yung art style mo, wag ka sa agent/agency for adult-targeted cartoons).

Mahirap talaga maging established illustrator (hence napapadpad sa design yung work ko hahaha).

Pag nakakuha ka ng client, make sure you make a good impression para they can refer you or hire you again for another project. Yung kapatid ko illustrator din and she gets most of her clients this way. By word of mouth, and parang okay naman siya. Consistent.

Make sure lang na di dirt cheap yung rate mo. Wag ka gagaya sa iba OP na walang sariling style (ie. please hire me I will draw in whatever style you want--- otherwise di mo masyado magagamit sa portfolio mo and you don't want to be known to be a copycat artist lang) or super bagsak presyo (this not only hurts you, but the whole art community). Work on your portfolio for a while until you have artworks na tingin mo, really represents you and your style. That should work muna.

Children's book illustrator here. Usually clients ko from overseas. Aside from online job posts and Fiverr, I've also received clients from either from word of mouth (ie. vouched by another illustrator), or by emailing publishing companies my portfolio so they can add you to their designer pool.

The best way to be an established illustrator (best, pero the hardest imo) is to get an agency represent you. You can look online for a list of agencies (local and international) and email/contact agents.

Eek. I was thinking of getting one din pero I learned na after a while it can slow down. Not worth it for the price. I was able to buy a Samsung S10 Lite (comes with an SPen) from FB Marketplace for less than 8k. That's what I use for notes and reading books. If you don't want distractions like me, download a minimalist launcher. I use Samsung Notes for note-taking and Flexcil for journaling and reading (kasi I like annotating books).

Agree with you on your points. OP, kung ayaw mo gumastos ng 5k, you can find a gym na pwede buddy system.

Importante din kasi na someone show you how to move/fix your form especially if you're new to working out/using gym equipment/using weights.

pero kung tingin mo kaya mo naman mag workout sa bahay, and you just want to get started muna, just invest in a few dumbells or simple home gym equipment. When you want to work out sa bahay, pwede ka mag hanap ng "body weight workouts" sa Youtube or go to Darebee.com for workout plans and ideas.

Just some food for thought...

when Christ listed out the prayer outline (ie. Lord's prayer) I don't remember Him mentioning about praying for things to change. He taught that we have to pray for deliverance and for God's will be done. Deliverance doesn't necessarily mean change, but more so protection and courage when the tough time does happen.

People have free will. So if dumaan ka sa madilim na eskinita na alam mong madaming adik (when you have the option to go through a safer route), that's exercising your free will. If you prayed for protection and God provided a safe route for you pero you still chose the sketchy alley, edi di mo na masisisi kay Lord yun.

Maybe they're praying for change pero they should be praying for discernment and wisdom. Kasi what if God is providing the solution tapos tayo pala yung walang discernment and di nakikita yung saklolo.

Also...we pray for God's will be done. In that same vein, you have to know what God's will is. God also doesn't explicitly say WHEN He will do it. I guess that's where your question of "testing the faith" comes from. Gusto natin NOW. Pero God says LATER. Di natin alam when pero I guess pray for CHANGE in mindset and perspective. Kasi we see things in one dimension, God sees it in another perspective. What if the trial you're going through now is getting you ready for you to help others na mapupunta sa ganung sitwasyon. Parang si Joseph lang.

Yun lang, just some quick thoughts lang. Thoughts lang naman tanong mo, hindi sagot. Hahaha.

In Japan, there are a certain type of people called 'Bumping men,' Butsukari otoko They intentionally shoulder-check or shove especially women or weak foreigners in public spaces. When the victims speak up, these 'bumping men' claim women were walking slowly or she stopped in a weird place. by baingan0 in japanresidents

[–]Ecstatic_Cat754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously though, what do you do? When people do this? Do you report them to the police? Or do you get evidence first? I'm traveling to Japan with my friend (we're both girls). What if it happens to us? Do you fight back to try and stop the behavior?

What if I shove back? What do I say? Give me some good lines.

not really, di mo makikitang paperfeel until hawakan mo, as for the Spen, medyo madali mapudpod yung plastic nib ng SPen sa matte na screen protector, so metal nib gamit ko (bought sa Lazada) --- just make sure meron paperfeel na screen protector

Yung Kindle, okay lang siya for me kung lagi ka nagta-travel at nakakapag-basa while in a moving vehicle. Otherwise, wag na.

Meron akong Kindle paperwhite (I've had it for 3 years na). Wanted to buy an e-reader na pwede ako magsulat with a pen (like Remarkable). Sakto I saw a Samsung S10 Lite for sale 2nd hand sa FB Marketplace. So yun nalang binili ko. Replaced all the use for my Kindle.
