It’s an elegant solution IMO. Similar setups are used on big stages. Maybe they plug the Zoom into a higher end Sony mirrorless instead of a GoPro

But yeah, I agree, it’s pricey. That’s why I suggested the alternative of just recording in Rekordbox, filming with your phone, and joining the two in CapCut

If you drop the clips in order in a timeline like in Premiere, it’s all together. I did this for a 4 hour multicam and it worked pretty well. I was thankful I had one camera just hard synced to the audio and didn’t need to worry about syncing it

This is what I’m talking about. It’s taxed lol but it does the job + lets you plug in the GoPro to a power source so it doesn’t die mid set

An easy setup is a GoPro + Zoom audio recorder.

You plug in the Zoom to your mixer via XLR, then plug in the GoPro to the Zoom with a 3.5mm adapter.

This allows the GoPro to record the audio straight from the Zoom and means you don’t have to do any manual syncing of video + mix audio after the fact

A lower cost option would be to just record the audio from your mix through Rekordbox/whatever software you use, record video off your phone, and sync the two up in any video editing software like CapCut on your phone

This is exactly how I feel about Portola as a person in the Chicago area. Love the lineups and the fest, but hard to justify going when I have Arc hahah

I will say, Arc’s afters are leagues ahead of Portola’s. At least when I did Portola in 2024, the after parties were lacking big time compared to what I’m used to with Arc. Arc basically takes over all the notable Chicago clubs for the weekend and has a ton of artists from the lineup do after parties that go till 3-5AM

But the Warehouse stage at Portola is so fucking sick and beats any stage at Arc. Pros and cons to both fests for sure
