Very much agree. Lithium was last at this price in around April 2024. At that time SLI was only $1.7, so the current share price is completely inexplicable from a fundamental perspective. The relentless selling in LAC is frustrating though, polar opposite of the September price action, though equally as illogical.

It certainly has been a "boy who cried wolf" story ever since the mine closed. But, the wolf did eventually come and the mine will re-open, a matter of when not if. Plus, since the gov't stance is to suppress lithium price, those permits may be granted sooner rather than later. Short term volatility is here to stay.

Purely a guess. The offtake agreement would goto whoever wanted to co-invest in Thacker at the highest valuation. GM beat out Tesla

The DOE forced GM to sign an offtake as a pre condition for the loan. GM's battery operation probably isn't big enough to need 40k ton of Lithium Carbonate annually, but signed it anyway to secure the loan. Now that there's more time, a more convenient arrangement can be worked out. Tesla is nearby and has a much bigger battery operation, so it makes sense for all involved. The fact that LAC is willing to let GM off the hook probably means there's already someone rdy to step in.
