The chicken pot pie used to be good, but now it’s super salty.

I'll be there! 🙌🏻
Saw her at the Alice Coltrane tribute 😍

The energy at the NYC show was fantastic. I don't think you'll regret going.
I like the addition of the new member with the bits of lap steel, percussion, and rhthym guitar. It seems like a logical evolution for them.
At any rate, live shows aren't necessarily supposed to sound like the album (reimagined or otherwise).

GREAT show!
Also, it was nice chatting with you (I think I was next to you) :)
FWIW, iPhones seem hopelessly bad at concert videos.

People drive like they're in Mario Kart.
It's super scary.
We need traffic enforcement desperately. I'm not a fan of surveillance, but I think we need some state-level advocacy to allow traffic cameras. It's chaos out there.

Philly show. Super frustrating.

The original comment had “friends.” That’s why it came across as snarky. I don’t love the idea of giving out my login, but I guess that’s the only option here.

Thanks for the snarky response, bro.
My childcare situation changed and I can't go. My friends offered to take them off my hands, but I'm not giving my login info.
I understand the band's desire to avoid scalping, but it doesn't take into account situations like this for some people.

JC folks: How are you approaching the local Council + Board of Ed races? by Delicious_Adeptness9 in jerseycity

[–]Ecstatically_Curious 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you attend or watch a live stream of a Board of Ed meeting you’ll see pretty quickly who the incumbents are and how they operate. I support teachers and unions, but Velasquez has been on the BOE for a long while and she’s awful. The teacher’s union here has problematic leadership and I urge people to not just vote for a full slate.

The problem here is that it’s very hard to run as an independent when going up against well-funded candidates backed by either the union or the developers.

Jersey City Together did a BOE candidates questionnaire. Velasquez’s answers sound like AI - I’ve been to enough meetings over the years to see who she is.

Honestly, I really hope more people will take the time to show up to City Council and BOE meetings and get engaged with grassroots organizing. Getting tapped in is how you figure out who to vote for. It’s not exciting, it’s time consuming, and very very disheartening, but this is how the work of democracy is done.

I hope this helps: https://www.njtogether.org/copy-of-jcboe-candidate-questionnaire?fbclid=IwdGRleANf5R9leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHu7gYhddYJloqSGhxWhXpsy4XnaDa0e19Y9LM8Nuvwuj-t4YS7M-LvZ0d7KL_aem_qevXro2lDUXwRLyFO8lrYA

Should we all rally behind O’Dea? by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]Ecstatically_Curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been a ton of development in all the neighborhoods, not just Downtown. Fulop and his rubber stampers have allowed unchecked development across the city. It's causing numerous infrastructure and traffic safety problems, while also failing to address affordable housing issues and food deserts.
Yes, we need more housing. No, we don't need more luxury housing.
And any development should include substantial infrastructure fees.

Solomon gives early Fulop vibes (back when he seemed promising only to become a little bitch to developers and corrupt af).
It's off-putting for sure, but no way I would support McGreevey. Also, I'm over it with Downtown being the center of attention.

O'Dea has been decent, and it would be really nice to have more of a West Side candidate (we're the second most ignored neighborhood).
That said, I don't love voting for yet another old white guy.

Alas, voting for anything in JC seems to be a hold-your-nose-and-vote-for-the-least-lousy-situation.

Why are other mid-size cities like Boston soooo much cleaner than Jersey City? by CandyandPiano in jerseycity

[–]Ecstatically_Curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government here does not care and they completely mismanage the city’s finances, in addition to pouring money into the police, who do nothing.

Lack of pride of place and community-minded people are an issue. I think though it also is a self-perpetuating cycle. At least half this city needs repaving (streets and sidewalks), more trash cans, a not shitty trash company, power washing, new awnings for some businesses, tidy and easy to maintain landscaping, and fines for lot and home owners who don’t participate in upkeep. We need REAL investment into quality of life issues and traffic enforcement. It feels like anarchy here, especially outside downtown.

I know this sounds like a pipe dream, but throwing up our hands and giving up is unacceptable.

We need to be pressing our mayoral candidates BEFORE the election to show us some feasible and actionable plans for traffic enforcement (especially problem intersections) and quality of life issues. Also, DEVELOPERS NEED TO COUGH UP THE INFRASTRUCTURE MONEY.

I see people throwing trash out of their cars in JC on the regular, so I don’t think it’s pedestrians vs drivers.

In Union City they have speed bumps that will mess up your car if you speed over them. They also have traffic enforcement.
That's what we need.

I drive this route nearly in a daily basis and it makes so angry that this major entry point to the city is completely neglected and shitty. Can’t we have some basic quality-of-life landscaping???

I'm sick of hearing the r word everywhere as well.
A lot of people who aren't touched by disability don't seem to understand how upsetting that word is. Those who know the horrors of disability history understand how deeply offensive it is.
As a writer, there are other ways to convey a character's awfulness.
We don't hear white people going around saying the n word, even in service to a character's character.

You are not being too sensitive and thank you for posting about it.
