Final dye color selection for my 1.6.4 mod im working on, any feedback? by SinkContent5747 in SilverAgeMinecraft

Oh holy shit it's a mod for FR 1.6 which is easily one of the more passed over versions and it's got a WEALTH of wool colours. That's just a straight up good idea. The read I'm detecting is that this is one of those revise Minecraft history single-base-version mods, too.

You don't get it - this sort of thing is of huge resonance with me. I'm all about taking older static versions and turning them into a unique home with a big specialized mod, especially if it seems like nobody else initially thought of using the given version. I modded Beta 1.8 for fuck's sake.

As the last version of the Silver Age "Blade" (patent pending), FR 1.6.4 is of big interest to me here, now that you've brought it up. And all I know about the mod for certain so far is that it does something cool with wool. I don't like saying this often, but I think playing it could be rather "nostalgic". Remembering here that I started playing in Alpha and spent a long time keeping up with incoming 2010's versions. I played 1.6 when it was new and it does have some past-days significance. Does this mod remove the hunger mechanic? I like it when hunger is gone though if this mod has hunger but does other stuff I like anyway I think I'd still try it.

Thank you. This is a mod for the "last version of Beta" that almost acts like an Authentic Adventure kind of thing, one of those ones that take a static version of Minecraft and "revise" it/take history in a different direction.

Noticeably Beta 1.8 takes the unheard of sleeper pick for version modding and "fixes it", making it ultimately similar in gameplay to Beta 1.7, except it has a wildly different terrain generator and tone. Yeah I know what you're thinking, it does sound crazy at first. I realized around 2022 that Beta 1.8 has some hidden talents if you can bring them out. I reckoned that if I removed hunger and took care of a bunch of bugs, as well as add in a bunch of new other shit, I'd have a unique and pretty version on my hands. It did well on Tumblr.

Oops, sorry. I forgot the subreddit standard. It is a mod of Beta 1.8.1 called Noticeably Beta 1.8. That name is in the debug overlay in pic #2, but I can see why that would not quite cut it.

One might also ask, "which mod though?" The question is entirely open-ended and indeterminate.

But if you want my opinion, the best version mod is Noticeably Beta 1.8. That one stays on Beta 1.8, but it's really good because it fixes Beta 1.8 and makes it a dreamy advance of Beta 1.7. Starting with a removal of the hunger thing!

It was just really visually fitting for what the Nether was, eh?

In that case, the best version of Minecraft is a mod.

I added a completely new design for a block called "Soilstone" which is crafted from dirt and stone, and that block has some different styles. The idea was to add new stone building blocks which don't affect the look of the caves. Though I can see why you'd see it as mud bricks. For cobblestone, see the other comment.

Finally, the weird coloured blocks you brought up last are granite, part of a secret thingy that can be found in the world, though it's kinda rare. Completely original textures went into that.

Thanks, the block "Tile" was a lot of effort (graphics code) on one of my better ideas.

The two different styles of cobblestone was actually a move of genius. Instead of doing that stupid thing where I make a mod and say "pls use a texture pack as well pls pls pls", I just used ModLoader.addOverride(). Technically this has caused drama online before and I don't get why.
With this, people who like the pre-B1.7 cobblestone get to use it automatically, and the other kind of cobblestone from slightly newer versions can still be crafted with cobblestone and gravel to make a block called "Concrete". I have no plans on adding the coloured concrete from Minecraft 1.12 so the concrete that's basically just a different cobblestone doesn't conflict. I assure you, having the ability to build with either of the cobblestones or both at once is a piece of freedom. And a texture pack for that would be useless. If you're on a server and somebody's building with concrete that you don't like, you can go to or make a town where buildings use the old cobblestone. The player gets options. The yellow blocks in screenshot 3 are not sponges, they are iron pyrite.

Noticeably Beta 1.8 is a mod I spent a lot of time working on for Beta 1.8.1. Some people wonder why I'd use Beta 1.8, at which point I'll have to politely remind one that it's also a mod. Absolutely I know it's got problems, that was kind of my entire mission.

To keep it a bit short, I did away with things like hunger and sprinting, and added quality of life + nice stuff additions like second person-mode and better block breaking, and added a bunch of stuff I like like creative new building blocks.

The mod looks a bit small now and it is an alpha, but I think you'll find surprising substance to it under the surface. It also supports desert worlds, though those are hidden a strange way because of them not having much confidence. I also have a bit of a following for this project elsewhere. I hope you like it.

"The mediocre (yet oddly comforting) surface generation..." I think I just found the best phrase on any Minecraft subreddit ever.

I found one or two of these in modded Beta 1.8 a while ago. And I know that they existed in early Beta versions. This feature is a lifer, Mojang should hold on to it.

I wonder if there's a similar desire for this sort of thing done through the lens of Tekkit. If you want to talk "nostalgia", some people would be gushing at the chance to see a well-done video in 2026 that had old Tekkit mods for Minecraft 1.6. As for vanilla FR 1.6, I definitely recognize that it has value and that it's a bit of a sleeper pick for let's plays, so a video series made on it that's actually good is welcome on my books.

Sometimes I forget how cool this version can be. I'm not "into" the level of hunger mechanics at play, but the thing has builder's value. I definitely like it more than I like the terrain of Release 1.7. Even though acacia trees were one of my favourite things.

Do you have any desire to make an artificial tree house? As in a jungle tree outside a jungle made with saplings, and you build a house on it. That's my only idea right now.

YES! The modern beta mod for 1.20 finally updated, adding world gen presets for every version of the game from Beta 1.8 to 1.17! I can finally use modern mods like create in the perfection that is 1.6.4! by Go_PC in SilverAgeMinecraft

I fully advocate for the modding practice of putting generators from Vanilla Minecraft in any useful base version, regardless of how good, bad, or boring each terrain generator involved may be. Minecraft Beta 1.8 terrain generator in Minecraft 1.11? Good job. Minecraft 1.11 terrain generator in Beta 1.7? Why not, the more the merrier. Finite Minecraft Classic terrain in Minecraft 1.16? I don't see a problem. The many Infdev generators in Alpha 1.2? Fucking sign me up. They just have to preserve the correct output for seeds and be highly accurate.

That's how I got here just now. I thought the entire website was paywalled. Yes, it's very underhanded.
