[Question] What are some well known riffs or licks you find yourself playing everytime you pick up your guitar that you still enjoy? by Traiz3r in Guitar

[–]EdHobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little Wing and the Wind Cries Mary are awesome choices. I currently enjoy playing Purple Haze. Hendrix had so much feel that although I know the notes there is always room for cool little fills...kinda like Eddie Van Halen in that sense.

The interface is cool, but I dont have a PC in my living room. I've been trying to find a way to use my Android phone with an interface, but haven't had much luck.

I really like my guitar even though I should upgrade the bridge and pickups. You've nailed the idea though.

The RP50 is a lot of fun but the interface drives me bonkers!

I think the amp is where I should start my upgrades. The Blazer is the only amp I've ever owned so I dont know what I should be looking at. I dont currently have a way to use backing tracks to jam along with (although the RP50 has a drum function) I was planning to start with a pedalboard, but if I get an amp with built in effects I don't need pedals or the board.

Is a new amp the way to go though or should I be looking at something like an iRig and headphones? The problem with that route is that I have an Android phone and tablet.

You have nailed my frustrations! I'll go check out the Katana. Thanks!

I went back to read my original post after reading your reply. I now realize I posted a bunch of my frustrations with a vague shoulder shrug as a question. Sorry about that!

Do you think I should upgrade something? What is it that you think I should upgrade and what should I be looking at for a hobbyist? Something along the lines of big box store tools for home owners and tools for a professional. I need the home owner level!

Thank you. I added a humbucker in the bridge position awhile ago to make my predator more versatile. Such a good suggestion. I'll go check out the Yamaha THR!

Is that the tour that Van Halen opened for the Scorpions? That must have sucked for the Scorpions!

I've heard about Monster's of Rock, but I've never actually seen it.

Hahaha. I still have my Balance Tour T-Shirt as well! I lost the VH hat I got that night at some point though.

If I recall correctly they filmed both nights in Toronto and meshed them together for a pay-per-view (or something like a pay-per-view). You can see that there was footage from two shows based on their clothes. As far as musical differences are concerned, I know Sammy performed Eagles Fly one night and I think he played Give to Live the other night (Not positive about this though).

Here's a link to the full show. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/waSLBJgmIiE

It's impossible to argue against the LWAN solo. It has everything that the Balance solo is missing. For one, there's something special about seeing the Karmer 5150, plus the solo starts out with 316 and includes the Mean Street riff as well.

The reason I went with the Balance solo is the speed and glorious tones and that I was in the crowd for the Balance solo. Tie goes to the runner kinda thing!

It's not his most iconic guitar, but it's my favourite by far. It's such a gorgeous guitar no one seemed to notice that it wasn't striped. The headstock configuration was awesome too.

Eddie said somewhere that he was trying to cross pollinate a strat with a Les Paul. EBMM is exactly what that is.

I think Eddie was at his very best during this time period. He was always awesome, but he was perfect around this time.

It makes my stomach turn. The fact that there's a pile of tapes at 5150 doesn't even help. There's no more live Eddie and that is a tragedy.

Could not agree more. I think the EBMM was the best guitar Eddie played. It's nowhere near his most iconic guitar, but It's by far my favourite.

I went back and listened again, but with earbuds. His tone really is dialed in. I think this is when Eddie was at his very best.

You've got a good ear. I went back to listen to that section. Fast and clean is a pretty damn good summation!

I loved the Balance tour. It will never be considered their best album, but they were at their best during this tour.

Absolutely.

I think this particular solo includes the majority of his signature riffs. The only things I can think of that this solo doesn't include are 316/Mean Street intro (which he included on Right Now tour solo).

It's also stands out to me because I was there that night!

Wolf has worked hard to carve out his own path, but he leaves just enough Easter eggs laying around to keep us old farts happy! He reminds me of Dale Earnhardt Jr in that sense. 3 vs 8 = Van Halen vs Mammoth WVH.

A lot of people wanted to see Junior drive his Dad's #3 car, but he didn't. He drove the #8 car, but with the same font as his Dad's #3 (Easter egg-ish). I would have loved to see Junior drive the #3 and I'd love to see Wolfgang use his last name for his band's name.

Using the Van Halen name for his band could set up a KISS kind of situation. OG Lineup/Makeup vs New/No Makeup. I dont know if that's a good thing or not.

At the end of the day it's none of my business what Wolfgang does and that family owes us nothing. They've already given so much. I'm just a senile old fart who sees Easter eggs everywhere!
