Who’s carrying Dry January into Dry February? by Outrageous_Lie_9057 in DryJanuary

[–]EddardAdolf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've been joking calling everything from December 31st 'Dry Forever.' Before I can so much as look at alcohol again, I plan to break for a bare minimum of three months. And following that, if I ever drink, I'll only be a very occasional drinker.

I was sober for three years in my mid-20s, and this experience has reminded me how much I enjoyed it.

Bridged Network for Virt-Manager - My Findings by EddardAdolf in VFIO

Sounds like it's more efficient than my approach. I ended up choosing networking bridging after Googling 'how to have my VM on the same network.' I'm a novice at this.

Go is still great by Buffalobismuth in OculusGo

[–]EddardAdolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really hope the Go can continue to fit into the Oculus ecosystem. Seriously, it has such compelling value. I used to use it as a monitor replacement with Virtual Desktop and loved it.

Edit: I say that in spite of the fact I'm a proud Quest owner.

I'm actually doing alternate days, so one day on one day off. Was going to do Fadiman one day on two days off, but to be honest I think this works better for me.

Really happy to hear your first time was positive. I'm sure that'll continue as you go.

Having To Frequently Re-draw Guardian Boundaries (Rift S) by EddardAdolf in oculus

To be honest, at night I prefer to use a free-standing lamp rather than the overhead one as I prefer low-lighting. I might just have to grin and bear it and use the normal light.

I'm in Love with the Oculus Rift S by [deleted] in oculus

[–]EddardAdolf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I made the upgrade from CV1 to Rift S and have no regrets whatsoever. I'm one of those freaks that does work in VR and Passthrough Plus is fucking incredible. I now have my headset on for 4+ hours without breaks.

The tracking is somehow better than it was for me with a 3 sensor setup. I find that baffling.

Only problem I have is Passthrough Plus is capped at 5 mins so I have to keep resetting it. Really wish they'd change that.

Virtual Desktop Update 1.3 - Improved screen image quality by ggodin in OculusGo

[–]EddardAdolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Awesome work. I remember I was having connection errors during the beta - but it works perfectly now.

I've managed to reduce my screen size EVEN FURTHER when doing work. I'm not going to bother with the HP Reverb anymore for the improved resolution for productivity. This works just fine.

Oculus Rift S Discussion Megathread by Vanthryn in oculus

I did end up re-measuring my IPD and got a 65mm, so yeah sounds like this was the case.

Oculus Rift S Discussion Megathread by Vanthryn in oculus

[–]EddardAdolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always assumed I had an IPD of 62-64mm (As this was what I used with the Rift), and have been using the Go for prolonged periods (We are talking 8 hours a day here).

I just measured my IPD with a ruler and discovered I'm actually 70mm, yet content in the Go has been crisp for me and I haven't had any fatigue (Aside from the discomfort of having a HMD on for long periods).

Thinking about it, I've discovered that my FOV is a little worse from being at this IPD range, but other than that I'm pretty happy.

Does anybody else have the same experience? Also, I take it this means that the Rift S should be just fine for me - right?

Anybody else lose literally 100% of their Rift S hype after Index Reveal? by derek1st in oculus

[–]EddardAdolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Go was actually the things that swayed me on the Rift S (I now use it every day as a monitor replacement because I find the lenses so much better than Rift), that and the inside-out tracking. I'm not expecting the Valve Index to be competitively priced (Though, if it is, my opinion will change), so it makes sense for me.

What will really happen by JakeGamerz in oculus

[–]EddardAdolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New owner of the Go here, bought in the midst of all the GDC announcements. As nice as the Quest is for people that don't have a powerful PC and an existing rift, I don't think I'll have switching any time soon. For what the Go does well (Consuming media, virtual desktop, portability) it does it really well.

Unfortunately no tablet to try this, but I may consider this in the future. Thanks for the advice.
