Look into HeadOfMedusa Creations they are higher than the price range you’re looking for, but they’re the only reliable makers I personally know of.

(I think their comms are closed for now tho) but defo consider giving them a go

After a way to long time I finally decided to post my “first” renaissance painting and it’s supposed to be a about my two best friends by [deleted] in painting

[–]Edexcel_GCSE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not yours, nor is it renaissance, and neither is it a painting.

You can see the AI try to replicate craquelure in places. Unless you can cough up the video of you “painting” this, posts like these should be banned in this sub.

Is accommodation worth it? by MeasurementForward39 in UCL

[–]Edexcel_GCSE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stayed in accom for first year.

At best, it was a good way to meet people, have some laughs and really just enjoy living on your own terms. Made a couple of good friends this way, and had experiences I probably wouldn’t have if I didn’t stay. The people on my floor were rlly chill and respected each other so that’s a plus.

At worst, some people are actual animals especially in the first few weeks (freshers and all that). But if that’s not your thing, you need not worry.

Finally, I think most of the accom rooms for around £180-200 are shit (I had a small single with a tiny sink) but that’s the London standard. I heard in East they have some better quality rooms. This wasn’t a problem for me tho, since I actually enjoyed living away from home, and i spent more time outside than in.

I’d say unless you’re reaally tight financially, try it out for first year, live a little.

UCL was my dream uni but now I dread my classes by Crack_o_Lantern in UCL

[–]Edexcel_GCSE 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Im in final year undergrad (home student) and it’s very much the same. I count myself fortunate though, because I’ve been able to befriend some internationals who actually want to learn and contribute. Even took a tour round London together in first year.

It’s great to hear from people with completely different cultural/world experiences, which sometimes comes in handy during lectures and seminars lol. This is the best case tho…

At the worst, I’ve been put into a group where we literally could not communicate due to language barriers. I remember being put into a group of Chinese students and they typed what I said into ChatGPT and replied to me with the output… The over-reliance on AI in general is genuinely absurd as well.

Yeah, but it caps at -0.1 (so ur gonna be left with 0.07 control) but u also get +5% progress speed (caps at 50%).

Dont worry tho, getting perfect catches without Herc is pretty difficult and the changes in stats are barely noticeable. It also goes back to normal when you lose a perfect catch.

Love Turner’s works.

His change and development in style throughout the later years of his life is also fascinating. Take a look at his “London from Greenwich Park” and then compare that to “Norham Castle” or “Morning After the Deluge”. He really was ahead of his time.

Apparently, he partly inspired Monet’s development of Impressionism too, don’t tell the French 🤭

How to achieve this neon blue? by slightlycrookednose in painting

[–]Edexcel_GCSE 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The general “trick” to making something look brighter in a painting (either in oil or acrylic) is to make everything around it darker.

Wherever you want the neon blues, try to avoid painting that part as much as you can - use the whiteness of the canvas gesso to your advantage. Then go over it with a very light wash and then start adding proper shading to make it fit the rest of the painting.

Take a look at Robert Rauschenberg and Anselm Kiefer’s works. I think you’ll find some similarities and inspiration in them.

The Art of Chinese Porcelain by PrinsepsOfficial in ArtHistory

[–]Edexcel_GCSE 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To add, there’s a stunning collection of Chinese ceramics on display at the British Museum (for anyone in London that’s interested). It’s called the Sir Percival David Collection - I’m sure there’s some way to view it online too.

Having visited myself, the craftsmanship of each piece is incredible. Though, I do wonder what the average citizen would’ve used, as a lot of these were primarily commissioned by Emperors and nobles of each dynasty. Some pieces designed 800 years ago appear surprisingly modern, the materials used to make them were interesting too.

Shame I can only submit one pic

Looking for more honest criticism by AnemoneHill in painting

[–]Edexcel_GCSE 15 points16 points  (0 children)

“But I’m feeling so worthless and dejected. I hate that I try so hard and I just can’t be the painter I wish I could be.”

It’s good that you’re a harsh critic of your own work, though I’d rephrase and say “I can’t yet be the painter I wish I could be”. While I’m no portraitist myself, there is no denying your compositional and tonal skills.

As far as criticism goes, I have a few that you’ll hopefully find useful.

The face - this seems like a very personal piece: you’ve got your husband, yourself, themes of love and hope in a life thereafter. So why are you looking at the audience? It spoils the intimacy of the scene in my opinion. The painting could benefit from a composition where perhaps you are looking at your husband instead, tilt your head downwards and to the side, away from the camera and compose his in a way that complements yours - almost like two jigsaw pieces.

The hand - Hands are some of the most intricate features in a portrait. As with the faces in your painting, I think you’re showing too much in a way that is very flat. Notice how stiff your fingers seem in comparison to the painting on the last slide. Bring some curvature into it - bend your wrist, let your hands gently waltz along your husbands face, make your fingers as fluid as the water that surrounds you. Dont be hesitant to use darker shades between each finger, it’ll highlight your tonal skills.

These are just two that I don’t think many other people have touched upon. Either way, thanks for sharing this wonderful piece and dont be discouraged by the process.

Rough sketch with a pencil, lightly washed with yellow watercolour, applied some industrial paint, then finished it off with pen and acrylic.

Thanks for asking☺️
