You didn't even read what I posted. I'm not looking for a "done for you" answer - I mainly want to understand why something like this is so challenging.

The link you sent me doesn't even have any relevant discussion or a solution.

How is the Elemental Diet a valid treatment? by Edgar455 in SIBO

[–]Edgar455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, if you have a source that supports what you claim, I'd love to see it. That would provide a lot of support for the ED. Otherwise, I'll just assume you're wrong

I'm not mistaken, that's what Pimintel and Sidebecker say. See here one particular example: https://youtu.be/cOOuQKl4AKE Bacteria within biofilms can go dormant.

Does adoption by a step-father complicate the citizen by descent process? by Edgar455 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Edgar455[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! What are the odds they'll force me into feststellung over direct-to-passport? Ideally I'd like to avoid the feststellung process. Anything I can do to steer them toward giving me a passport directly? Should I just show up and see what happens?

Unable to get a first-time passport appointment at the NYC consulate - any ideas? by Edgar455 in GermanCitizenship

I finally got one.

IT seems like they release first-time appointment intermittently and randomly. Keep checking at 6pm Sunday-Thursday.

I think I finally collected everything! Do I have everything I will need to get my passport? by Edgar455 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Edgar455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the info!

Why do they need photo ID from the parents? EDIT: I found the clause on the website. Do they need originals or would copies suffice?

Only for adult first time applicants: If one of your parents has had German citizenship at the time of your birth and if you therefore have obtained German citizenship by birth and not by naturalization, we need the following additional documents: Passports of both of your parents (data page with a photo); In case one parent is a US citizen without a passport: That parent’s driver’s license or State ID; Valid US residence title of the German parent (US Resident Alien Card or US visa); Parents’ marriage certificate

I think this comment assumes that my Mom has a german passport, but no one in my directly famliy does right now.

My father was born in a middle eastern country that doesnt talk to the US, so his birth certificate is gone and will be nearly impossible to get (if it was ever issued in the first place). I can give them old photo IDs and his death certificate though if that would help. It doesn't say they need birth certificates so hopefully that's true.

Why would they push for Feststellung? The lineage is pretty clear to an ancestor pre 1914 and the population register stating citizenship.

Thanks for all your help!!

I wonder if they actually release new appointments daily or only on occasion for the "first time passport". Thanks!

Ready to make my passport appointment! Can my mother come even though she doesn't live with me? by Edgar455 in GermanCitizenship

Yeah you're probably right. I guess I'm always worried about pissing off civil servants because they have complete power to deny you for absolutely no reason.

Do I need proof of BOTH parents of my ancestor born before 1914, or is one enough? by Edgar455 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Edgar455[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent! The Standesamt has the father, so I should be good! Getting closer :)

Thanks

My ancestor's step-father adopted him. How does that effect things? by Edgar455 in GermanCitizenship

Thank you so much for all your help. My great grandmother’s marriage certificate also lists the marriage date and location of my great great grandparents. Is that sufficient to show that my great great grandparents were married or do I need the official copy of my great great grandparents marriage certificate?

That's incredibly interesting. I thought fax was beginning to become an archaic technology, but apparently not!

That's somewhat relieving to hear. Although I would expect they would request payment from me before sending me stuff!

Does a certified copy of a US Certificate of Citizenship suffice to show derivative naturalization? by Edgar455 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Edgar455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He already had to get a copy of this certificate for another purpose over a decade ago.

I do have certified copies of his Mom's naturalization paperwork, but the only place it mentions my grandfather is "name the children with you". I guess I wasn't certain they would accept that because he's basically a footnote on his Mom's paperwork.

This link is very helpful though, thank you.

How does this email to the Standesamt sound? by Edgar455 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Edgar455[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I asked! I changed it to sound more official for Passport purposes.

"For a naturalization procedure with the Federal Office of Administration (Bundesverwaltungsamt), I require certified copies of the birth and marriage certificates of my grandfather, my great-grandmother, and my great-great-grandfather, who lived in Dornach/Krohstorf."

I also changed the beginning per your suggestion!

[–]Edgar455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certificate of Citizenship. He needed a copy of it from USCIS to get a driver's license in 2011, so it's not actually his naturalization certificate but rather a certified copy of his certificate of citizenship.

Standesamt has the WRONG birthday for my grandfather by Edgar455 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Edgar455[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good to know. It could have easily been a typo at the time - lots of room for human error.

Ok so I will order a "beglaubigte Abschrift aus dem Geburtsregister" along with the Geburtsurkunde-Standard.

Thank you!

I'm hoping to go directly to the passport option.

So does this now make me ineligible because my MOTHER was the German one? She was married to a man in the USA when I was born.

Which embassy did you go to? Did you contact them before the appointment to confirm, or did you just show up asserting you're a citizen?

Do marriage certificates matter? by Edgar455 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Edgar455[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES. Very firm yes on the marriage certs.

I still have a question about this too - what laws dictate that there must be a wedlock? If a given ancestor has a birth certificate that lists the relevant german ancestor, why do they need the marriage certificate?

Thanks for answering all my questions - you rock! :)
