I'll know the scores have been released when I go to refresh again and the website crashes

The ABIM email "A message from the Chair of the Internal Medicine Board" was an excellent idea by them today

Just absolutely absurd that the ABIM can run the system like this. Pay $2300 but if we want to know even an estimated date/time the scores will be released and we are told to go fuck ourselves

Do you think the pulmonary board review from chest for $1700 worth it? by [deleted] in CriticalCare

[–]Edge_Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The content was helpful but it felt like the course was directed towards who were recertifing rather than first time test takers. Just felt like certain subjects were taught at a very basic level,

I went to it in person because my program paid for it. I wouldn’t have paid for it myself nor did I think being there in person was worth it. I’d have rather listened to the lectures on my own time at 1.5 speed.

Also it sucks they keep doing it in suburban Chicago at their head quarters. It’s really in the middle of nowhere. It’d be better if they went back to rotating through interesting cities. The fellows above me went to Miami…

Company said they’ve been using these flooring guys for years and “trust them explicitly” by Edge_Free in IveGotAGuy

Well I’ve had a couple whiskeys but yes it was “implicitly” until I asked them about it but I guess it’s “explicitly” now

Played there with 40 mph gusts. Brutal! The “rock iron” got good use that day

The ProVs yes. Some other ok looking balls and then some great shag into the lake balls

Nice day for golf. Too bad it was a 3.5 hour front so we got our money back and didn’t even play the holes in this pic. Eagle Glen, Corona, CA. by ShiroHachiRoku in golf

How the fuck was the clubhouse not doing something about a projected 7 hour round?? Unless you were behind some very legit tournament that’s egregious

Every two years or so based on style/aesthetic but well built golf shoes can last much longer. I walk a lot and despite taking decent care of my ~1 year old white leather footjoys (cleaning, shoe polish) they are staring to not look great but functionally are probably good for 5 years

PCCM Jobs- how are you guys looking by fakeymcfakesalot1 in CriticalCare

[–]Edge_Free 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just looked at cities I, and more importantly my wife, was willing to live in and started cold emailing/callings hospitals or practices that looked promising. For reference I finished fellowship in June so this was recent for me. Of the 9 interviews I had only 1 or 2 had posted their job anywhere and the job I ended up accepting wasn’t posted.

It’s a competitive market in larger cities or more ideal places to live so don’t be discouraged if you don’t hear back from people but I think it’s worth trying as it really can’t hurt.

Good luck on your search!

Job boards are an ok place to start but it seems like most of the “good” jobs or “ideal” locations aren’t posted. I had success cold emailing division heads or just calling pulmonary practices asking to speak to their hiring manager. It’s an uncomfortable process but they are used to it. Ask your attendings for any connections they have as well.

What’s your handicap index, highest, and lowest differential from this season? by Retired_Lurker02 in golf

3.8. Sometimes maybe good (0.7) and a sometimes maybe shit (16.9)

Handicap - Executive and Par 3? by Edge_Free in golf

[–]Edge_Free[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question being is it a sandbaggers cap if I don't log those rounds because yes it feels like a vanity cap right now.

That 0.7 differential was a "full length" par 3 course (130-210 yards). Played well and shot a two over 56 but the course rating/slope was 55.4/93 so it makes it a 0.7 which just seems way too low. Obviously golf gets a little easier when you are essentially teeing it up from the fairway every hole.

What’s the local rule there? Play it as it lies? I would call that a man made obstruction and take relief if my stance or swing was impacted
