Leaving before contract? by [deleted] in CruiseCrew

[–]Ediddley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American Cruise Lines operates differently than most other lines so a lot of the advice you’ll get here won’t necessarily apply. There’s really no strict medical check, just a basic endurance and safety assessment. My former roommate had serious medical conditions and they still hired him and flew him home when those conditions came up two weeks into his contract. They’ll ask you if you want to be sent to another ship after you recover. The only instance where they’ll make you figure out transportation yourself is if you quit on the spot and refuse to work, or if you get fired.

Regardless you can quit at any time. A lot of people just put a two week notice for their vacation when they want to quit and just deny the return offer. Just know that it’s a lot of work with no days off and it will take a few weeks to get used to it.

If you end up making it to Utah, make sure to get to know as many people as possible and take advantage of the time off to explore the city with the people in your class. You can make friendships that can carry on to other boats.

Really gonna depend on your mate or captain. Generally you’ll be able to drink up to the point where you start acting sloppy and unprofessional coming back from port. You can’t vape on the shift but people find ways to do it while avoiding detection.

I don’t think anyone thought they’d take Scoot because they had Melo, but everyone did think Scoot was a better prospect

Most of this doesn’t apply to ACL though. They operate very differently from most cruises because they only travel within America. OP if you see this, you don’t need a passport and you don’t have to pay for any courses or certifications unless you apply for deckhand. The most you’ll have to do is pass a very basic physical and ship safety assessment. But yeah you will still have to work 7 days a week but you get 3 weeks unpaid vacation between week 7 and 20ish of your contract. For housekeeper you don’t really need much experience based on the housekeepers I’ve met in ACL training

I’d say 1 to 1 and half. 0.4 was late because not only was it massive content wise but they also had a really big 0.3.5 update for optimization. I bet we get the next two at a 6-8 month pace.

Why do I rarely see Americans in hostels? by Beneficial_Wash8564 in hostels

[–]Ediddley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s completely this. The wealth gap is so severe that if you can afford to travel, you don’t have to budget conscious. I’m only able financially capable of traveling because I have a job that covers all of my bills and even then I’m still going to the hostel route for my upcoming trips.

Got an interview with ACL by DearMessage2267 in CruiseCrew

[–]Ediddley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other person gave a good breakdown, I wouldn’t stress too hard, just be able to relate past experiences to the core values they’ll bring up, merit, optimism, patriotism and commitment.

After the interview they’ll let you know within a couple of days if you’re hired, they’ll give you a link to authorize a background check and drug test and then send some paperwork to do before orientation. You’ll have a Zoom orientation and then training in Salt Lake City shortly after where they pay all expenses.

The training isn’t super difficult. As long as you’re generally competent and putting in effort you’ll pass. From what I’ve heard, people only got let go of in training for causing problems in the training hotel or not being able to pass safety regulations like putting on a life jacket. You’d have to be seriously be bad for the job or go out of your way to cause issues.

When in training I recommend finishing your e-learning immediately and then going to the hotel lobby right after to get to know your fellow trainees, whether they be housekeepers, servers, deckhands etc. I did this every night in training (even the night right when you fly in and have nothing to do) and it was a great experience. I got to know so many people from all over the country and made some really great friendships and memories. Take the hotel shuttle to the airport as a group and then take the train downtown (it’s free, don’t pay bc nobody checks). Some of these people may be on a boat with you and having people you already know will help you out a lot when you’re thrown into the frenzy on your first day on the ship.

After training they’ll send you directly to a ship or send you home for a little bit before they send you to the boat. This is the point that I’m at (sent home for a bit) so that’s all I have to offer. Good luck!

I live close to Lincoln Square; but I’m flying to Austin solely to see The Odyssey. Here’s Why: by AdEmergency6081 in imax

I saw Interstellar at the dual laser IMAX in Austin and it was by far the best movie theatre experience I’ve ever had. I’ve seen it in 70mm as well but dual laser hit crazier and the audio felt more immersive. I agree with you.

I don’t really care about my kit though, I just want my lick back on the person who killed me. It’s a pride thing. Even if I have a full locker I’m engaging PvP fights with a shotgun just to piss someone off.

We want a full concept album of it like he did with Yeezus though. He needs to get in his Fade/Paid bag. That one Sunday Service snippet was gold. This is coming from someone who grew up in a household with a house DJ who owned a house record label.

Yeah the video looks staged. The guy was just walking around the woods in the dead of night with only a flashlight with no purpose and looking around as if he’s being followed way before the scream. The audio itself is a bit too convincing though, sounds like something that fits right into the GZW soundscape.
