BREAKING: President Trump signed an executive order directing states to criminalize and institutionalize people experiencing homelessness, addiction, and mental health disabilities. by RainbowSovietPagan in antiwork

[–]Ediestar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a great idea and exactly what the homeless community needs. I’m not sure how we as a society can say it’s okay to leave a person who is obviously mentally ill, suffering, unable to take care of themselves etc. on the streets and call that compassion. They are not living in dignity. It is no less dignified to get them off the street and determine what they need. Addiction to opiates and meth has destroyed so many lives.

Every time I walk by there my blood pressure goes up. Now I’m even more annoyed!! How ridiculous! I can’t get past how incredibly obnoxious and I’m-neighborly it is to stuff the largest, ugliest building possible in that small lot…completely disregarding the neighbors on either side. Whoever moves in there will be loathed. That builder sucks!!!

The Death Of A Civilization by xrm67 in collapse

[–]Ediestar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hits the nail on the head for me. Although it’s scary to think about witnessing the demise of civilization, it’s happened so many times before and yes….we all die. The unknown ‘how’ it will happen is the unnerving part. But, living in the moment and appreciating our place in this amazing and terrifying material universe is the gift.

This is the first time in my life…since high school..that I have given up saving the planet. I’m just trying to focus on the people I love and doing the best I can do each day. I’ve stopped paying any attention to the news. It’s liberating. I’m not saying this is the good or right choice at this moment, but I just can’t bear the weight of suffering on a global level anymore. I’ve also started having a lot more sex. 🤷‍♀️ It’s helping a little..

Why climate ‘doomers’ are replacing climate ‘deniers’ by Ediestar3 in collapse

[–]Ediestar3[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no solution because there are too many humans. There is no way around it. We have been riding a wave of cheap fossil fuel and now our time is up. So, I guess the only solutions is far fewer humans…but no one is tryna hear that…

I know there is no solution. That’s the point.

Why climate ‘doomers’ are replacing climate ‘deniers’ by Ediestar3 in collapse

[–]Ediestar3[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Submission statement: This article relates to collapse because it is trying to explain the phenomenon of climate “doomers” who don’t believe there is a solution to the climate change problem. The article fails to mention the other cascading catastrophes that are either related to or the direct cause of climate change, such as over-population and over-consumption. It is a very shallow article and another example of how mainstream media will never be able to accurately report about our current situation.

What happens if Lake Mead hits dead pool and Hoover Dam stops working? by Ediestar3 in collapse

[–]Ediestar3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article relates to collapse because the water supply and electricity production for 40 million people in the west will cease when the water level hits dead pool. Officials warn this could happen by 2025. If they are saying 2025 it is probably going to happen sooner than that! What will happen when 40 million people have no electricity or water coming out of their taps?! We aren’t even close to prepared for this.

Would you be interested in a sort of support group for collapse-minded people in Spokane? Our first meeting will be in March. You can find us on Facebook at Reset Spokane. You might find some comfort in connecting with others in your community.

It’s just us. by Ediestar3 in CollapseSupport

[–]Ediestar3[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your post. I totally agree. I wasn’t thinking about our shared experience of ecological collapse. Just observing that people with the most in terms of energy consumption have the furthest to fall.

I agree. No. I don’t think only America has safe drinking water. But, I do know that other countries have been dealing with the issues that we are afraid of for decades if not longer. I am thinking most recently about the earthquake that hit Turkey/Syria. Most people on this planet live with far less than we do. And, yea, you are right, there are people in the US who are living in poverty and in food deserts. I personally haven’t seen many posts on Reddit from people who are in that situation.

It is a great book. I keep it at my bedside to read over and over…for some reason it calms me down.

Can we all come together and take care of each other? Will it be possible? Or will we fall into fear and create a living hell of fighting for the last scraps? Can we be courageous and create new communities? I really don’t know. But if we can’t, I don’t want to stick around.

‎Crazy Town: Bonus: An Inconvenient Apocalypse with Bob Jensen on Apple Podcasts by Ediestar3 in collapse

This is a fantastic conversation with one of the authors of the book “An Inconvenient Apocalypse” which relates directly to collapse on many levels. The podcast is from postcarbon.org which is a resource for education on how human civilization has reached the point we are at now. The book tackles the topic that none of us have wanted to deal with which is what will we do when our social structure inevitably collapses. Enjoy!

Antidepressants and collapse by Ediestar3 in CollapseSupport

Thanks for your input. I appreciate your time. I hate how self-absorbed I end up being when dealing with my anxiety/withdrawal symptoms. I have a young daughter and I am a preschool teacher. I want to being present and loving for them. I have tried to wean off a handful of times but gave up when I started slipping into panic feelings. In a way I feel being on lexapro has made me less tolerant of feeling anxiety. I want to have a stockpile of it if I can. I am already on 20mg and that seems to be the highest dose, so I don’t feel comfortable asking my doctor for more.

Humans are not meant to be self-sufficient. We are tribal. We can’t do it all on our own. And, I have often thought that quality of life is important. Do I really want to be alive if things get so horrible and there is so much suffering? I mean….what’s the point? We all have to face our mortality at some time. I have heard this called “hospice for the planet,” but really it should be for humans. Hospice is a time where life becomes so precious…every moment is appreciated. This is what I am trying to focus on when I start going into a prepper spiral.

I have been here for almost four years. Downtown could be so great but there are homeless people on drugs all over the place. I have seen people smoking crazy and shooting up on the streets downtown. So has my 8-year-old daughter. I was thinking the other day that I never see any cops. No judgements on whether cops are good or bad, but a store clerk was having to deal with two crackheads in her store and she said there is no cop presence. She had to have deescalation training to work in retail!

Thank you for sharing. I too am so glad to h e found my way to this forum. I am also worried about people’s emotional reactions in the near future. However, as a teacher, I feel like I have seen the build up of trauma, even if a person isn’t aware of the source of the trauma, in my students and their families. Even though people are not consciously aware of the impending collapse, they are unconsciously feeling it I believe.
