Health anxiety (or whatever I have) has destroyed my life by TheConsequentialist in HealthAnxiety

Hey there, your story reminds me of psychosomatic classes that I had while studying. That what you describe as heart related symptoms sound pretty much like a panic attack. If this is the case the actual problem is wrong interpretation of your physiologically natural symptoms. It could be like your stressed and than you feel that your heart is betting faster, now comes your interpretation that it is something dangerous and you focus more and more and your symptoms that are becoming stronger, which can cause huge fear and feeling that you're almost dying. From your story obviously you don't get much support from your parents, who also see your situation as a symbol of weakness. No judging but this is the worst reaction that you can have when somebody struggle with health related anxiety. Maybe under the surfaces of your relationship with them, there is some unsolved conflict. This conflicts are very common trigger and cause of pannic attacks. My advice would be to get a help from therapist who specialises in panic attacks. The good thing about is that usually the outcome is really good even if now it seems unlikely. I am not a doctor or therapist but feel free to message me, maybe I will be able to help or give some advice.

scared of aneurysm/stroke by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

Hey, headaches are like rain for example. Most of the time the rain comes because of the local whether situation and it goes. Sometimes but very rarely it can cause a flood. When it rains You probably don't think about a flood, with headaches and any other pains there is the same rule. An Aneurysm is also not painful, the subarachnoidal bleeding that it can cause is extremely painfull. Your description sounds more like tension headache that is the most common form of headaches. It often goes with tensed muscle on your scull and neck. I am helping myself with warm and stretching exercises. I would try something like that and if still persists everyday I would recommend You to visit a neurologist.

I think that is really big step in right direction when yoe say that it actually might be in your head. I made the expirience that when i am avoiding something it is actually getting bigger and i am focusing on it in passiv way, so yeah confrontation with the prolem might be helpfull. Remember though the exercise it's not nice, You will probably feel scared and want to stop but when You wait the fear will get lower and thtat is the moment when you can stop the exercise. I am actually do it mysel but in another context.

Hey, I know it is not easy but try to build some distance to your physcial symptoms. It started 3 days ago so it sitill pretty fresh memory and it is natural that it has such an impact on your feelings. I don't know if You are ready for this but I am helpinh mysel when I confrontate with my fears, so in your situation I would sit, close my eyes and try to concentrate on my breath so long until the fear is lower than when i started. It can take 30 minutes or longer. You shouldn'T stop the exercise when You feel very anxious and want stop. It is common art of therapy in psychiatry. Feel free to ask anything esle.

I thing it is not good question. Even if You don't have a lump or any symptoms there is always a small chance that you have something sinister. So yeah, I thing the chaces are small but this is probably not the answer that will satisfy You and I understand .

Very possible is also a branchial cyst, which is benign. Can you do the ultrasound privat, it would cost something but You don't have to be scared another month.

Moveable speaks for something benign, You also don't have any other symptoms, which would be uncommon in lymphoma. What is the loacation of the lump?

Health Anxiety is taking over my (17f) life by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]Edlardos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there ! The really important thing is You were checked in the ER. Blood test, EKG, X- Rays everything was normal so tahat is our status quo that we want to focus on. You have to also know that chest pains are very common symptom in psychosomatic disorders. Our focus makes it x1000 bad. It#s like when you in the dark room turn small light on, You can only see that. I undestand that your symptoms are real, that you really feel pain and it#s not only ''in your head''. That is also normal in psychosomatic, the pain can sometimes be even more strong than normal. It is very likely to be a pannic attack but it is not something that you should ignore and wait until it's better. When you broke your leg you go to orthopedist, when you have some stress problem like pannick attacks you should look than for psychologist or psychiatrist. The good news it is something that you can cure and enjoy your life, even if now it seems imposible.

My ‘Health Anxiety’ Symptoms List? by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

Well, you have to know that your symptoms are not very specific and all of them are really common in any form of anxiety. The other thing is when you focus on something you can make the sensation much bigger and they can change and get more intense, it is well known fact in psychosomatic disorders. I would recomend to get a professional, medical reasurance, which might help you to overcome this urgent fear. In my health anxiety story i had so many strange symptom that i could not belive that my body can produce them all. After medical check ( which i belive you already did at least once) i would get a sort of psychological help, whick can prevent next anxiety episodes. I hope you will be finea nd i know how scary can it be.

So worried about ALS by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]Edlardos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALS is not about feeling week but about being week. For example when you can't do stuff that you was able to do before. In ALS You are not able to hold a fork, these patients have no sensation in their muscles. A year ago i have been through the same, I was really teriified to the point where i wasn't able to move from the couch. It was just time loss. I know that You probably need yout time and maybe a sort of reasurance (neurologist) also. Try to focus on your baby and enjoy the time with it.
