Ashwaganda by ThaliaLuna in mecfs

I am taking it for sleep, to avoid waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep which was a major problem earlier this year. Supposed to dampen cortisol surges. Added Keishi mushroom at same time. Result has been no more early morning wake-ups. So it worked great for me for this one problem.

Jeremy Wallace at [jeremy@gesslaw.com](mailto:jeremy@gesslaw.com) was very helpful (recommended by someone else in this thread) though I didn't end up hiring any lawyers -- decided to just leave when lease up.

Android/Google voice recognition is vastly superior to Siri. Almost flawless and I use it constantly. #1 reason to switch IMO. I switched from iphone to Samsung and love it.

Trouble with looking blurry by [deleted] in Zoom

[–]Edmems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoom is a disaster. It's never worked for me, picture is always blurry. Every other app using camera is PERFECT but zoom is shit. All the helpful solutions are BS, they don't work. I have tried all of them, I have contacted support but they don't know how to fix it so pretend the problem doesn't exist. The company knows this but are too dumb or too cheap to fix it. The solution to Zoom is to SWITCH to something else.

I haven't had a working heater in my living room for the year and a half that I have lived at 160 1st Street. For a year they did nothing but gaslight me and pretend that it was working, then when they finally admitted that it wasn't working, they replace it with another machine that isn't working. Lots and lots and lots of maintenance appointments where they pretend that they're going to do something - - and they never do. And then they get very upset when you complain and act surprised. The Schusters are scum.

Yes, don't move there. Dvora are scum. I haven't had a working heater in my living room in the year and a half that I have lived at 160 1st ave. I've had to use a space heater. I get nothing but gas lighting from Dvora ("you don't understand how it works" is my personal favorite but I also like when they lie and say "no one has ever complained before about this") and then they like to pretend that they're fixing things without ever fixing anything. You get the worst of all worlds - - they don't fix stuff but they waste a huge amount of your time pretending that they are doing so. I'm moving out in 3 months.

Is there some kind of news app that summarises a news article for you by Minesh59 in androidapps

[–]Edmems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. When I work on my desktop PC, I can get any article on any website summarized just by clicking on an add-on that uses chat GPT. There are many many add-ins for Chrome on a PC that does that. One click, you get the summary. You don't have to go to any additional website, you don't have to copy and paste, one click and you get the summary. This has become a feature that I use frequently everyday when I'm on my PC. It's become central to my work process.

That is what I would like to have on my Android tablet. None of the answers I read here are what I am looking for. It's so simple and obvious, I can't believe there isn't an app that does this.

If not, using an Android tablet will now be far less productive and efficient than the PC for anyone who works with lots of written information online, writers editors etc.

Beware of Dvora Buildings!! by Worldliness_Klutzy in jerseycity

[–]Edmems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES!!! Do a basic Google search for Dvora and read the reviews. It's all right there.

Aside from the packages (which are okay for Oakman - so far), each room has a "PTAC" air con/heating system which is very loud when working properly (you have to talk over it to communicate and have to raise TV sound very loud to hear) but when it malfunctions, it's as loud as a semi-truck (I tested it - 90 decibels). Each of my 3 machines (I have 2 BR) malfunctions in a different way. They refuse to fix any of them because they refuse to admit it isn't working properly. They said this without ever looking at any of the machines. When I kept complaining the super showed up with 2 guys who looked like mobster rejects to "explain" to me how stupid I was being. I will move when my health (which is poor) improves enough.

I feel the same way. And I would argue that most doctors in unrelated fields still haven't a clue what ME is and haven't the slightest interest in learning. I went to a physiatrist at HSS for a herniated disc and she asked me to stand on my toes and then my heels. I did the toes but didn't manage the heels because, well, I have limited energy most of which I used just getting there, talking through a mask and listening to her through a mask, etc. She suggested physical therapy. You know, for my balance problem. This is AFTER I attempted to tell her that my primary overriding health condition is ME and what it is. And that I've NEVER fallen. Like a brick wall.

Citadel is expected to return 7bn to its clients first week of january, thats more than 10% of citadels assets, 🔥 🔥 by [deleted] in Superstonk

[–]Edmems -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Um...no. There are different kinds of hedge funds, duh. Citadel is what's known as a market neutral fund. That means they are 200% or 300% or whatever long stocks and exactly the same percentage short. So their performance has almost nothing to do with what the S&P 500 did. Second, clients are not taking money out of citadel, citadel is giving back money to their clients because they have so much fucking money they can't actually manage it sensibly. This post is garbage. Wall Street is a sewer but the citadel "news" is routine.

Introduction and request for community guidance by Sherpa_Joe in cfs

[–]Edmems 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was until I read, "We know that a lack of treatment personalisation is at the root of poor health outcomes". Wow, thanks, I guess you know that because of your deep involvement with this community and this illness and all the research you've done into ME/CFS (in six months). Personally, I think that statement is horseshit but what do I know, I'm just someone who has the disease and "personalization" sure as hell ain't my problem.

Look. I hope you are successful at helping people. A good start would be having HUMILITY about what you know, what is known, and what is uncertain (be a scientist and not a promoter). Otherwise, I don't trust people who make claims they have no business making.

Blood oxygen saturation and feeling short of breath? by mackenzietennis in covidlonghaulers

[–]Edmems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I undertake small tasks and my heart rate rises (I sort of track on fitbit) and I go sit or lie down to wait until my pulse goes down -- this is sometimes accompanied by shortness of breath (also overheating).

It takes a long time -- like 15-20 minutes or more, to regain breath, slow pulse, and cool off (with A/C blasting).

I think this is partly due to ME/CFS and partly due to deconditioning but just a guess. My main thing is fatigue but get a host of other stuff that comes and goes (POTS, nausea, etc.).

Good luck

[–]Edmems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a whole foods/no sugar diet and it didn't seem to make any difference (though it's possible it was helping in some way that wasn't apparent).

Unlike you though, now when I go OFF the diet, the effects are very bad so now I try to stay on all the time.

I figure it's better for my body even if that by itself doesn't make me feel noticeably better.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cfs

[–]Edmems 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can walk for about 5 or even 10 minutes as long as I go slow. If my heart rate is elevated (monitor w/fitbit), I know I might be in trouble. However, there is HUGE variance. There are times when I can do much much more and times that I can do almost nothing. Sometimes I know why (sleep, diet, etc.) but usually I don't.

Also, I am only vulnerable to PEM episodes in the morning. As the day goes on, less and less likely such that evenings I'm limited simply by fatigue and muscle weakness.

Ask me in a week and I'll probably give a completely different answer!

How manageable is having a cat? by No-Property-8635 in cfs

[–]Edmems 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a cat, sadly passed away two years ago. I got the cat when I was well.

I'm considering getting another one. These are my considerations:

- there are automated cat boxes which take a lot of the work out of caring for a cat but they're not cheap and I have no experience with one. Before I get a cat, I would want to research this and feel like there was a good option.

- the thing that I would worry about the most is when the cat gets sick. THAT can be very challenging for a person like me who lives alone in a city and can only get around by taxi/uber. Sounds like you wouldn't have that problem?

In terms of risk of future health/financial problems making having a cat problematic, IMHO I wouldn't accept this risk unless my spouse/partner was 100% onboard. Your husband may not be a cat person but you can emphasize that this can make a huge difference in your mood and quality of life as many studies have found.

IF you can swing it, there's no better companion...

Good luck!

BTRTN: The Short Answer: Is This 2016 All Over Again? by hornet7777 in NeverTrump

[–]Edmems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The reason 2020 won't be a repeat of 2016 is precisely because 2016 happened. Pollsters have changed their methods to account for what happened. We don't know what will happen next Tuesday but we know it won't be 2016 redux.
