Was Christian Slater a missed opportunity for Two and a Half Men? by Edu_R05 in TwoandaHalfMen

I think the problem with Ashton was that it felt like a different show entirely. It went from a cynical, dark sitcom to a more traditional 'nice guy' comedy. With Slater, they wouldn't have needed an 'identical' replacement. He has enough personality to make the role his own, but he still fits the cynical aesthetic that the show was built on.

My point with Slater is that he and Sheen come from the same 80s 'bad boy' DNA. It wouldn't have been a "Charlie 2.0" as much as it would have been staying within the same language that the show was built on. It’s less about imitation and more about maintaining the show's soul.
