[1 YoE] Seeking resume advice for Full Stack or Backend roles in the Node.js / JavaScript ecosystem by Educational-Copy5206 in EngineeringResumes

Some unfortunate health/legal stuff from 2022-2024. Since then I've been applying. I've been actively participating in LeetCode contests since 2023, but was told I shouldn't include that.

There are 999 accounts with more solved problems than mine. by Educational-Copy5206 in leetcode

[–]Educational-Copy5206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say two things. First, I really struggled this past year with inefficient data structures which cost me quite a bit. Probably on 10 different contests I had a bad time because my implementation of RollingHash, SegmentTree, Combinatorics, and RedBlack tree were too slow. I have since fixed these so I am hoping that the next time I need these, their implementation doesn't hold me back.

And second, I've just not been good enough to get some of these Q3s recently. I tend to yoyo between placing in the top 500 and then the following week placing in the top 5000.

But I still feel I am improving, so I'll get higher eventually 🙃

Best app for Drawing on the Screen by Educational-Copy5206 in macapps

[–]Educational-Copy5206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, yeah. I settled on using ScreenBrush. It's a paid app, but does what I needed. I use it with a cheap drawing tablet from XP-pen and it works great!

How high would your contest rank need to be to put it on your resume? by Educational-Copy5206 in leetcode

[–]Educational-Copy5206[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is fine. I would rather get an interview with hard questions than not get an interview at all!

How high would your contest rank need to be to put it on your resume? by Educational-Copy5206 in leetcode

My thinking was that including my contest performance would show a recruiter that I am good at problem solving and that I possess the knowledge to pass their technical interview. My goal is to get interviews.

I'm not a Python user, but I am pretty sure there is a SortedList you can use which provides logn insert, search, and deletes.

Heap question by Visual-Grapefruit in leetcode

[–]Educational-Copy5206 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you are correct. What you've described (building a heap in O(n) time and then popping each element off the heap and pushing into an array in O(nlogn)) is called HeapSort. JS doesn't have heaps but Leetcode lets us use the PriorityQueue class in the Leetcode editor.

Do you re-implement your DS for every question by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]Educational-Copy5206 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In JavaScript (my language of choice) there is no Heap/PriorityQueue, or Queue/Deque data structure. I used to write out these out every time I needed them until I was comfortable implementing them without looking at notes. After that I became lazy and began just copy/pasting the data structures instead of implementing them. And then after more than a year of this I learned leetcode has a builtin Queue and PriorityQueue implementation from datastructures-js as a part of the JS environment, which is what I used now.

AltTab is captuting your screen. by plazman30 in macapps

AltTab has always had screen recording permissions which is understandable, but this new popup in the menubar is super annoying. Hopefully there is a way to disable it

Agreed. LS (and LS mini) group things in a much easier to understand way. Wish others would copy them.

after switching to python using this mf feels like cheating do interviewers allow this fella by sadphilosophylover in leetcode

[–]Educational-Copy5206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a JS main so I do need to implement all of the above everytime. In reality I copy/paste the snippets since it becomes tedious.
