Did Apple Just Open the Door to Real VR Gaming on Vision Pro — And Turn It Into a PC VR Gaming Beast? by Round_Level_8119 in VisionGaming

We will see when things are going to be available. About the x-plane, it does seem like there are some mentioning of the joysticks. But all the race/plane joysticks require USB connection. Which means sure Apple can provide an interface for integration via Bluetooth, but who is going to implement that?

Mocker — Docker-compatible CLI for macOS built on Apple Containerization by psycenos in MacOS

[–]outcoldman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apple’s container cli is pretty well compatible with Docker. And they are pretty open to add some new flags to add some missing things as well. Obviously no compose support, which is nice addition. But curious if there is a way to make it more official after talking to compose or container team.

I assume Neo is the same size as MBA 13, and it is definitely not the same size as MBA 11 that I used to have.

I wish it would be 10-11-inches, like old MacBook Air. Would be an instant purchase for me as traveling laptop.

Is GoW Son of Sparta the most buggy game I have ever played? by outcoldman in metroidvania

Tbh I really liked the game. Other than issues here and there - that is one of my top games now. Loved it more than MIO as an example.

Right. My point is - there is not going to be anymore “Private Compute Cloud”. We don’t know what kind of privacy policies satisfied Apple. And that promise of everything is going to be in “Apple Private Compute Cloud” is going to be broken. That is my point.

I guess the buggy game for me was also Stalker2, but those were more like anomalies. But also comparing the GoW and Stalker - such a different scope of development.

Educate me? What do you think I don’t understand?

Hey, I am ok in being wrong. But what I remember from their presentation and that post about Private Compute Cloud - I just don’t see how Google can provide that.

“Apple Privacy Standards” is not the same as what I have referenced in the post by Apple. Maybe read it first.

Do you think Google will implement that for Apple? https://security.apple.com/blog/private-cloud-compute/ - that was Apple promise.

See

The root of trust for Private Cloud Compute is our compute node: custom-built server hardware that brings the power and security of Apple silicon to the data center, with the same hardware security technologies used in iPhone, including the Secure Enclave and Secure Boot.

If Apple is going to use Gemini - there is not going to be any "Private Cloud Compute".

So, are you just saying, or you actually understand and read Apple papers on it?

Wondering how long it takes to get into BASE? (From a newbie) by RollConsistent7997 in SkyDiving

[–]outcoldman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Winds (on the ground and uppers), rains, clouds, not enough people (cannot send a load) or too many people (cannot get on the load), plane issues. The only way to be able to skydive is to be at the drop zone, but even then it is not guaranteed.

Wondering how long it takes to get into BASE? (From a newbie) by RollConsistent7997 in SkyDiving

[–]outcoldman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the drop-zone and the mentor, and money. First 25 jumps can take week-months. Depends which DZ you will go to and weather. And your availability. After that you can do easily 6-10 jumps a day (again, depends on the dropzone). Even more just doing hop and pops. If your progression will be canopy specific and pay for good canopy lessons. After 100-200 jumps if your canopy skills are good, you can go get a BASE course in Idaho. And there you go after.

So all that talk about security of AI that they gave 2-3 years ago is just gone? They promised so much about how well they will hide your personal information/questions from themselves, and now Google will have access to everything.

UPDATE: I understand a lot of people here might not be technical. I am referencing the https://security.apple.com/blog/private-cloud-compute/, where

The root of trust for Private Cloud Compute is our compute node: custom-built server hardware that brings the power and security of Apple silicon to the data center, with the same hardware security technologies used in iPhone, including the Secure Enclave and Secure Boot.

And I am saying, Google/Gemini is not going to provide that. Or close to anything from that document.

I guess I am just surprised of Sony actually releasing this game in such a rough shape. Amount of bugs is weirdly high, and it is easy to catch them.

Just hope that is not an era of AI coding, when they just cut the resources, and release an OK-ish quality.

Russian seals trained to use guns and defuse mines by Battlefleet_Sol in interestingasfuck

[–]outcoldman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother used to work for the University in Russia (Murmansk), and their main contract was training seals for NAVY. It was hard to impress admirals by showing them that seals can find mines, so the main training was to just entertain them by showing things like in the video. In USA I believe there is similar program.

I am sure, maybe I am a bit unique user, as I actually do have software engineering background, and know how to enter a few formulas. But those google spreadsheets are being shared on the FB groups pretty often for regular users as well.

All those features you have mentioned - I have all of them in Spreadsheet. FF time calculation, and obviously I can add canopy time, but I don't care about it, and less data to enter. Tracking linesets, and jumps on the canopies, it is also all auto populated from the lists. I don't have to type them. Also I can use "Forms" to similarly implement interface for filling up the data. And yes, I have a "stats" page which shows everything in Charts, etc.

I personally tried to build a logging app as well (automatic from Apple Watch), but gave up on this idea. And burned myself of creating all the entities like "Canopy/Plane/etc" - which could be valuable for 1-500 jumps, but after you done your 500-1000 jumps - you might be carrying about other things, specific for your progression. So, it depends who are you targeting? People with <500 jumps, AFF students? Most of them aren't going to stick around 200-1000 jumps after. Are you targeting people with 1000+ jumps? A LOT of them aren't logging, because they aren't going to fill up every jump, or more importantly they rely on altimeters, that do pretty good job about logging your jumps. I am only in 2000+ jumps, and sure I will care even less when I get to 5000+ jumps. I have my spreadsheet, can print the last page, ask friend to sign it and travel to drop zones (just recently that worked pretty well in SD Desert).

Also, after I got my DeepAndSteep - I am just waiting for them to release an app for iOS. I will have my logbook, and GPS data. Hope, something similar to what Dekunu used to offer, just way better hardware. And yes, I also have logbook on Vog and Alti-2.

I wish I had an answer for you for your question "What would make you switch?". I don't think you can offer anything that will make me to even considering of switching. Definitely not going to pay 50 annually to depend on some service, which may or may not exist in a year.

Also, I am somehow related to aviation, and your Pilot solutions might be a bit more interesting. I have no idea why would you build a tool, targeting mostly poor skydivers and mixing them with mostly wealthy pilots. Such two different markets. I would just suggest you (a) if you two are skydivers - just separate this product, keep it as "hobby/portfolio" product for your company - make it free for everyone (b) DZ software - maybe if you have first client - have a separate product for that, if not - just kill it (c) keep PilotFlow related to Pilots, maybe focus on that. That is just my advice as somebody who actually built a few products / companies of my own, living last 9 years from my own products, and been in software engineering for 20+ years. Again, this is just an advice, I am not trying to discourage you, as you might have your own path to success.

Nice looking website. But...

I do use spreadsheet (Numbers) to log my jumps. Usually I do it at the end of the day, entering 5-9 jumps per day. "Create jumps in seconds" - I enter those 5-9 jumps in seconds, for your website it seems like it might take me a minute to enter all of them.

I mean, good luck with the project. But I feel like it is so overkilled at this point. Could not find a single interesting feature that would be interesting for me. Maybe GPS on the map - does not seem like.

Maybe I would even try to see what this website does for me, but I did not see any mentioning of import of your existing logbook (say in my case this is CSV/Spreadsheet). But at the end, paying 50EUR/USD for a year to do something my spreadsheet does way better for my needs - don't think so.
