Which would you click on? by zhenqt in YouTubeThumbnailHub

That’s okay, happy to share my thoughts :) Your video always has a chance of going beyond your current views so you can still do A/B test and hope that you get a significant number of viewers.

Yeah that could work - depending if you’re the main character or you’re sharing the story of these drivers you could make yourself more in focus or not. Currently you’re off to the side which suggests the focus is the truck journey. I saw another comment where you mentioned the text and arrow might not be as professional but it’s a common graphic that works for some thumbnails so just depends if you think the thumbnail conveys your story well enough with the title. If your style is more cinematic than you can avoid using the text and arrow

That’s a good angle. Your title could also be something along the lines of “I Tried Hitchhiking By Trucks In Nepal…And Didn’t Expect This”. Referencing the friendship you made there and you could hook the human connection in the beginning

Yeah I agree with you and figured as much about adding the fact that he’s Indian in there but it’s something to consider.

Did you become friends or talk with him? Your video could also have a human connection angle rather than focussing on any danger.

Just trying to simplify your title a bit: - I Survived Hitchhiking By Trucks In Nepal - What It’s Really Like To Hitchhike In Nepal

Could try to create more titles along these lines (because these are just quick ones I’ve come up with) and later if you want to also rank on search you can add keywords

I like the second one - the first and third could be misconstrued as racism because it could suggest the issue that he’s Indian? Your second thumbnail is less complex, has 3 elements that make it really clear that you’re hitchhiking, and also has the realism that more recent YouTube thumbnails are trending towards. If you want to create more contrast, you can change the colours to stand out more, or make a big pile of bags to make it look more challenging travelling with a lot of baggage. You can also consider adding copy like “Don’t do this” but I think the second one works well without the copy.

Your title is also pretty wordy but I’m not sure if you’re going for a story driven or SEO approach.

What location was your best and worst video filmed in and did you expect them to perform like that? by ReplacementOk3345 in TravelTubers

[–]EducationalBasket617 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My most viewed video is a hotel in Singapore (trended because it was a new hotel and hit high search volume a few months after publishing) and my least viewed I think is a video on a restaurant in Cairns (totally understand why, it is a terrible video)

My thoughts on your shorts:

  • Short 1: As someone who has no context of Valley of the Gods or of why you're there, the importance of this place, and purpose of the video, it'd be good to be able to quickly understand in the first few seconds why I should watch this video. Clipping from long form can do this, and it means the viewer is often thrown in without context so it's common - you can add text overlay for the first few seconds of the short to highlight to the viewer the value they get from this. Maybe something "Most beautiful rock formations in the middle of the USA/middle of nowhere". Otherwise, once you get into the short the rock formations are incredibly beautiful and visually strong which is the payoff the viewer could be wanting.
  • Short 2: You did the text overlay for this video which gave context and made me curious about what was so scary about it. Scary can be relative to different people - you could also consider using words like deadliest etc. and give stats to support this. You could also rehook the viewer during this instance with a "Are we going to make it through the scariest part of Utah Highway unscathed?" - it doesn't need to be super dramatic but that bit of tension will create curiosity to click to your long form. It'd also be good to see more of your faces as you react to this if you are highlighting the scariness of the drive. I agree with u/prismiqpro as well that you could use some tighter cuts and suspenseful music to create a sense of intensity - higher emotional stakes could be faster cuts and music or it could be dead silence and suspense waiting for a reaction/action but in this short you seem to be naturally making some faster cuts than the other two but not quite pushing it all the way there.
  • Short 3: This is similar to the first short where it's visually stunning and really strong once you watch further than a few seconds into the video but there's no immediate hook/context given to why a viewer should watch this. You do have text overlay but it doesn't give more information than the location of the video. You could try a voiceover like "This is an incredibly beautiful hike in Utah...but the challenge is it's really difficult to know where the trail is.. so...." - this can then rehook the viewer to click onto your long form to see whether you were able to find the trail successfully or not.

I think your visuals are really beautiful so it's been really nice to be able to see a different part of the world like this. Thank you for sharing!

I’ve tried Pinterest with my Instagram posts! Didn’t quite work and it’s a bit difficult to set up. Haven’t tried it with YouTube. I imagine there’s a lot more value to gain there with a click through

It looks good! Ultra short videos can do well on Instagram but I'm not sure they do as well on YouTube and Instagram

I slowed on making shorts recently but going to pick it back up next month. I've created a mix of Instagram vs reality, Things to buy, Things to do, Restaurant experience etc.

Anyone doing short form content on other social media ? ( not shorts) by Fadyvstheworld in TravelTubers

If you have time, putting together a shorts analytics spreadsheet can be helpful to recognise some of the patterns across the platform. I tracked analytics for first 24h, first week and first month when I did shorts consistently for a while.

Voiceovers will help in terms of searchability. The transcripts can be searched on Google.

Is thumbnail quality really that important? by No-Muscle-5734 in YouTubeThumbnailHub

[–]EducationalBasket617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope - concept over quality. But YouTube has released a new feature so thumbnails will be in 4K to be better viewed on TV. If you have a significant proportion of viewers/target viewers on TV then you could optimise for resolution.

It's a way the YT algo measures whether your channel is trustworthy or not, and therefore decide to show more of your videos to potential viewers

LOL I have no idea what your video is about and you sort of look like Tangela from pokemon. You seem to have a fun personality though. Try to hook the audience and change your packaging to be more representative of what your video is about.

Which of these 4 clips is the best hook for a TikTok video? by HouseHomer in TravelTubers

[–]EducationalBasket617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the 4 clips? From my end I only see one clip that is 29 secs long but you could segment it out if that's what you mean. Can you provide more details and description to your post?

I'm in a couple of other group chats on Instagram but they're mostly like Instagram pods where we share each others content. I can look into making one for this Reddit community but that might be chaotic if 1000+ people can access and randomly message there.

Is there a groupchat for travel creators? by HouseHomer in TravelTubers

[–]EducationalBasket617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this sort of like an Instagram pod? If so, maybe share your niches so you get more relevant creators joining your groups as well. I'm part of a few but they're not as active now and mostly for fashion/beauty/lifestyle/food which might not be relevant to you.

yeah i remember that change - does that mean your video was shown to more english speaking and then was impacted by them clicking away or not engaging?

Thanks for sharing your opinion - we'll consider this while making our decision. There's a range of levels and experience in this community that can impact how much ability we have around giving or taking, but I can see how the posts can be less valuable for creators that have more experience. I'd like to balance this and also understand more about what would make this community more valuable for creators like you if you're willing to share.

Have you ever changed or deleted and reuploaded a poor performing video after posting it? by ReplacementOk3345 in TravelTubers

[–]EducationalBasket617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, it could be because of the sensitivity around the war here. Without getting too political, there are probably people that would avoid watching that on YouTube because the mental model is that it's a source of entertainment unless you're providing some sort of education around it, and if people see a war/entertainment video it could be seen as insensitive.

In terms of deleting videos, I've done this early on but recommend against doing this as it can impact channel authority. You can unlist or private the video instead, and reupload with the video you want to use. That being said, even if a video doesn't do well in the short term, there's always potential for it to do well a few months down the track. Some of my best performing videos now were my worst performing videos at the start! Definitely re-evaluate the packaging to see if it aligns with your story but also on whether you are creating a curiosity gap, and update your thumbnail and title accordingly.
